The 2018 Top International Ink Companies Report
According to a compilation by INK world, DIC/Sun Chemical top the chart of leading Ink companies globally. Whilst, DIC/Sun Chemical top the chart with $4.60B sales, Flint Group with sales $2.50B ranked second followed by Sakata INX with $1.31B . The website also reveals the concerns for ink industry being the availability of raw materials as the biggest concern. A shortage of a critical precursor of photoinitators led to major price increases and difficulty in keeping up with UV inks and coatings. Pigment supply is a concern, as China has placed a significant emphasis on improving its environment and shutting down offenders, leading to plant closures. Overall, raw material costs are on the rise. The ink industry saw further consolidation within its customer and supplier bases, while also seeing a few significant mergers within its own ranks. 
Bühler Puts Color into Swiss Franc
Released in October 2017 and rated as the world best banknote last year, the Swiss franc note is in circulation from 22nd August. The 200-franc note, worth around $200, is the fourth in a new series of high-security Swiss banknotes being released in stages. The security printing inks of all new Swiss banknotes are dispersed on three-roll mills supplied by  Bühler Grinding & Dispersing . Bühler is the dominant manufacturer of such equipment, holding a global market share far above 75% and currently starting up production equipment in India and on the American continent. The company also prorivde LEYBOLD OPTICS SEC flexible packaging vacuum coater – A flexible system for the mass production of holographic applications.
Centre mulls over currency notes with polymer coating 
According to media sources, the Union government is exploring the option of paper currency notes with a polymer coating to increase the life span of notes and reduce soiling. During the FY 2017-18, 27.7 billion pieces of banknotes were disposed as against 12.5 billion pieces last year, as per Annual Report released by Reserve Bank of India.

Perhaps, SPMCIL sources ruled out the possibility of production of polymer currency notes. “It is practically not possible, for a variety of reasons. Over 90% of notes printed across the world are paper-based, while in remaining nations currency notes are polymerbased,” the source said. The official said some western countries introduced polymer notes but the experiment did not last long and most were withdrawn. “Now, they are working on hybrid notes that would be a mix of paper and polymers,” the source said. 
Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company finds new board
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed a new Managing Director and four executive directors for the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) . The president appointed Mr. Abbas Masanawa as the managing director and Mr. Abubakar Minjibir, Mr. Chris Orewa and Mr. Tunji Kazeem as executive directors. The appointment followed a memo sent to the president by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, dated August 28, in which he informed Buhari that the tenures of the current managing director, Joseph Ugboh and executive director, Finance, Abbas Masanawa, were ending on August 31.
