Bringing Nurses' Voices to Congress

Representing ASPAN, I attended the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Advocacy Day 2026 in Washington, D.C., with two other members of the Governmental Affairs SWT, Dr. Alphonzo Baker, Sr., and Elizabeth (Annie) Steffen. We spent the first day training. We learned that sharing stories is the most impactful way to advocate for bills, as it connects us and creates urgency for our lawmakers. Effective stories tap into emotions, include vivid details, and present a bill as the solution to the problem.

Stay Alert: How to Spot Scam and Phishing Emails
Cyber scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it more important than ever to stay vigilant. Before clicking a link, downloading an attachment, or providing personal information, take a moment to look for common warning signs:
- Unexpected requests for payments, passwords, or personal information.
- Urgent or threatening language that pressures you to act immediately.
- Unfamiliar sender addresses or email addresses that don't match the organization.
- Spelling, grammar, or formatting errors that seem unusual.
- Links or attachments you weren't expecting—hover over links to verify the destination before clicking.
If you ever receive an email that appears to be from ASPAN but something doesn't seem right, don't take any chances. Contact the ASPAN National Office to verify the message before responding or clicking any links. We're always happy to confirm whether an email is legitimate and help keep your information secure.
