The ASPAN Board of Directors recently met in Philadelphia to begin drafting our new strategic plan. Ideas were abundant, discussions were insightful, and our collective vision for the future continued to take shape. As the meetings progressed, I couldn’t help but think about my childhood home—and the lessons it taught me about honoring the past while preparing for the future.

ASPAN Reorganization

Across the country, ASPAN Components are gathering this fall for their annual conferences, bringing perianesthesia nurses together for meaningful education, networking and connection within the specialty. Survey Shows Continued Improvement in Access to Anesthesia Services

A new survey, administered by the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association, reveals continued improvement in access to anesthesia services, with 76% of ambulatory surgery centers reporting adequate provider availability in 2026—the highest rate across four surveys. However, staffing shortages, rising costs, and reimbursement challenges continue to affect facility operations and procedure volumes. Explore the survey findings to learn how facility size, staffing models, contracted services, and financial incentives influence anesthesia access across the ASC community.
