ASSEMBLYMEMBER RODNEYSE BICHOTTE HERMELYN'S STATEMENT ON HAITI EARTHQUAKE REMEMBRANCE
(Brooklyn, NY) -- On this day in 2010, a devastating earthquake struck Haiti, taking roughly 300,000 lives and leaving more than 1.5 million people homeless. Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn released the following statement, in remembrance:

"On this solemn day, we continue to commemorate the nearly 300,000 people who perished in the 2010 Haiti earthquake, as we grapple to come to terms with the fact that millions more who were displaced are still reeling from the devastation twelve years later. In addition, the grief we have long struggled with has been multiplied by cascading crises, including another earthquake that struck Haiti in July and numerous hurricanes that have ravaged the nation with frightening regularity. Further, Haiti has long been plundered for its resources, which has exacerbated the effects of climate change for the country. We cannot recover alone. Now, more than ever, we need those in our international community to open their hearts and borders."
