March 15, 2020
Dear ASU Prep Families,
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman released a
joint letter
today notifying Arizona families of the closure of all schools from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. School administrators have been asked to make every effort to provide continued education learning opportunities through online resources or materials that can be sent home. Good news! This is already part of our planning. ASU Preparatory Academy will continue forward with our online learning continuity plan for all of our K-12 families, as outlined
in our letter
from Dr. Anna Battle on Friday. Online instruction will begin Tuesday, March 17 for our Phoenix, South Phoenix, Tempe and Polytechnic campuses.
We recognize the importance and value of our ASU Prep preschool and our students who participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch program. Please see below for more information regarding preschool, plus meal options for our students over the next couple weeks.
Preschool
At this time, preschool will not be available until our in-person school day resumes. If you have pre-paid for preschool, your prepayments will be credited toward future services, or you can request a refund. We will work with you to make sure you receive your refund as timely as possible. Your campus preschool teachers and administration will assist with this process. When preschool resumes, your spot will still be held for you. We will notify you as soon as possible when our preschool Sun Devils can return to school.
The joint letter from Gov. Ducey and Arizona Superintendent
released today
mentioned “it is the recommendation of public health officials that kids who are not at school remain at home to the greatest extent possible. For families for whom that’s not an option, we are coordinating with partners in the non-profit, faith-based and education communities to make available childcare options to families who need it.” We will share these childcare options as soon as they are announced on our social media pages, and the
FAQs page
of our website.
Breakfast and Lunch Options
During the online teaching and learning period we are able to continue providing nutritious meals for all ASU Prep students beginning Monday, March 16 and through the duration of our online learning continuity plan. ASU Prep students, from any campus, can pick up a bagged breakfast and lunch to take with them at our designated locations during the times listed below. Cafeteria staff will be present at each location to assist with distribution of meals. Students/families will be asked to drive through a designated area to pick up the meals to-go. They will be asked to provide their student ID number like they typically do during lunch at school. Please do not drop off students unsupervised during these meal distribution windows.
Please note: If your income has been negatively impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic you may qualify for temporary assistance through the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Please email your name, email address, phone number and student(s) name to ASU Prep’s Nutrition Center at
jocelyne.canestrelli@asu.edu
.
Please complete our online
Breakfast and Lunch Survey
to let us know if you would like to participate in the meal distribution program. This will help us gauge meal interest and reduce food waste. At this time breakfast and lunch will be provided during two separate time offerings; however, it is our hope that we can provide both breakfast and lunch pickup all during one designated time window. We will notify you if this should change.
