Situated within a vibrant technological university committed to the Digital Humanities, the English Department seeks a teacher/scholar of digital media for a tenure-track position. The candidate will specialize in cultural analytics: the use of computational methods to analyze and visualize digital and/or literary media. Potential areas of focus include: literature, film, archival and image collections, born-digital artifacts, micromedia, social networking databases, digital activism, metatextual aesthetics, interactive art or media practices. The ideal candidate approaches his/her subject matter using cross-disciplinary and/or global perspectives. Teaching assignments might include courses in digital humanities, literature, comparative media, and general education courses offered by the English Department, with opportunities to develop courses in candidate's areas of specialization. The teaching load for new faculty is 2/3.

  • Ph.D. in English or closely related field at time of appointment
  • Experience in college teaching related to digital humanities
  • Teaching and/or research approaches using cross-disciplinary and/or global perspectives
  • Research plan which includes a form of cultural analytics
  • Publication record of critical texts and/or portfolio of digital humanities projects
  • Experience with computational methods
  • Programming/scripting/technical proficiency
  • Potential to attract sponsored research funding

The Department of Pan-African Studies at Kent State University invites papers for its second bi-annual Africa and the Atlantic World Conference. This year's conference aims at exploring new ways of studying the complex experiences of Africana people worldwide through the lenses of Black history, identities, sexualities, and popular culture. We are particularly interested in the interconnections between the experiences of blacks living in Africa and the Black Diaspora and the significance of these experiences in the formation of past and current identities in a global world. These experiences need to be discussed not only in relationship to the similar developments that occurred in Africa and the United States, but also in connection with parallel dynamics that evolved in other parts of the world such as the Caribbean, South America, Asia, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. Our interests in these issues stem from the growing vision and dedication within critical Africana scholarships to study the important contributions of African and African-descended people in the humanities in both local and global contexts. In this vein, the conference invites submission from academic scholars, independent scholars, advanced graduate students, undergraduate students, artists, community leaders and activists on ways to reflect the strengths and diversity of people of African descent. We welcome artistic submissions and  have set aside gallery space and theatre space for such endeavors.
