Assistant Professor, English and Africana Studies

 

Muhlenberg College invites applications for a tenure-track joint appointment as an Assistant Professor of English and Africana Studies to start in August 2014. Applicants should demonstrate an ability to teach and research African American literature. We especially welcome applicants who can teach broadly in American literature. The 3/3 teaching load will include literature courses at all levels, introductory courses in Africana Studies, American Studies, and first-year seminars. The successful candidate must combine teaching excellence with a strong commitment to Muhlenberg's General Education Curriculum, including diversity and global engagement, along with an intellectually compelling research agenda. Ph.D. should be in hand by August 2014.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The African and African American Studies Program at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The African and African American Studies Program is a cross-disciplinary program housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. We seek outstanding scholars with expertise in African and African American Studies. The research emphasis of applicants should be appropriate for an appointment in one of the academic departments in the college such as Anthropology, English, History, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Political Science, or Psychology. This position is expected to maintain a nationally visible, active program of scholarship in his/her areas of specialization and teach courses in the Program and in the tenure-home Department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. by August 16, 2014.

In addition, applicants for an Associate Professor appointment must meet university standards for appointment at this rank, including a substantial record of publication.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience teaching in African or African American Studies at the collegiate level Research interests/expertise that complement and build on research strengths in the African and African American Studies Program, tenure home department and Iowa State University

SALARY:
Commensurate with qualifications

OPEN RANK FACULTY POSITION in AFRICANA RELIGIONS
TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

The Africana Studies and Religious Studies programs at Texas A&M University invite applications for a tenured or tenure-track position at the assistant, associate or full professor rank, to begin September 2014. A Ph.D. in Religious Studies, Africana Studies or a closely related field by August 2014 is essential. Applicants should have teaching and research credentials in one or more of the following areas: Religions of Africa, Religions of the Caribbean, African Religions in North America, Indigenous African Religions and/or Religions of the African Diaspora. Multiple theoretical perspectives are welcome. Teaching and research in Women's and Gender Studies or Womanist Theology is desirable. Standard teaching load is 2/2. Teaching will include Introduction to Africana Studies, a new course in World Religions, and specialized courses in the area of expertise. Service to the Interdisciplinary Programs in Religious Studies and Africana Studies and research publication are expected.
