Aviation technician education’s premier event is scheduled for March 17-20 in Washington DC. This year’s agenda is jam-packed with something for everyone. Instructors, administrators, career services personnel, designated mechanic examiners, company recruiters and workforce development professionals are encouraged to attend.

Given recent year-over-year increases in membership and annual conference participants, record attendance is expected. Enhanced networking and collaboration opportunities are available not only for school representatives, but for vendors and employers seeking to forge new relationships and reinforce current partnerships.

The program will include reports from Washington on policy and workforce development initiatives, breakout sessions catered to instructors, administrators and recruiters, and an opportunity to visit the Nation’s Capital to meet with congressional leaders.

ATEC Annual Survey: Response Request
The council is conducting a survey of US-based educational institutions with aviation maintenance technical programs. Last week, an invitation to participate was delivered to each school's primary contact. The original deadline to respond has been extended to Nov. 10. Read more.

ACS Working Group Makes Formal Recommendation to Align Part 147
A June 28, 2017 letter was formally presented at a recent Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee meeting, recommending that the new part 147 align with developing airman certification standards. Read more.

FAA Invites Industry to Attend Inspector AMTS Course
The FAA Academy provides inspector training on the approval process and oversight responsibilities for aviation maintenance technician schools certificated under 14 CFR part 147. The three-day course is held at the FAA academy in Oklahoma City, the registration fee is $375. Seats are extremely limited, contact ATEC to reserve yours. Read more.

Women in Aviation International Scholarship Deadline Approaches
Scholarship applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than November 13. Scholarships will be awarded at WAI's 29th annual conference in Reno. Read more.

The council's new webpage will act as the clearing house for workforce development resources and reports, information on challenges associated with properly defining the shortage, and ongoing advocacy efforts . Read more.

Recorded Webinar: Competency-Based Education
Dr. Suzanne Kearns —an aviation academic that researches and teaches training methodologies —recently hosted a live webinar to discuss competency-based education in aviation. A recorded version of the webinar is available free of charge to ATEC members. Read more.

The university is launching a  professional development program  centered on the understanding and application of Federal Aviation Administration regulations and processes used in aircraft type and production certification. Read more.

Everett Community College Aviation Maintenance School Celebrates 50 Years
Started in 1967 in a former military commissary at Paine Field, the program was licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1968. Since 1985, it has been in a building near the county airport’s main terminal. Read more.
