Leadership & Management Development | |
We have all heard it: People don't leave jobs; they leave bosses. So, if you're wondering why your turnover rate is high, maybe it's time to look at your supervisors. Are they trained to actually manage people? Or are they just good at their jobs? There's a difference, you know.
Imagine this—you've got a star employee on the production floor. You promote them; voila, you've potentially created your worst manager. Why? Because managing people is a whole different ball game. It's like learning to operate a new piece of machinery; it takes specific training.
So, what should this training look like? First off, let's talk feedback. And no, I don't mean the annual "here's what you did wrong and right" talk. I mean real, ongoing conversations. Train your supervisors to ask questions that open the door to conversations that can actually improve your bottom line.
Employees need to trust that their supervisors are upfront with them. If your team believes you're keeping them in the loop, they will likely stick around. It's that simple.
And let's not forget training. Training isn't a one-and-done deal. It's an ongoing process. Your new managers may need assistance to develop skills, get feedback, and fine-tune their approach.
To wrap it up, investing in your supervisors is like investing in the very foundation of your company. When your employees feel valued and supported, they stick around. And in today's competitive job market, that's gold.
