Happy Holidays! We hope you are taking time this holiday season to enjoy time with family and friends. For ATSPA staff to celebrate the holidays, the ATSPA office will be closed on January 1st. Normal business hours will resume on Wednesday, January 2nd.
Winter Driving Tips from South Central PA Highway Safety
Did you know that January 6-12, 2019 is Winter Driving Awareness Week in Pennsylvania? So, if you haven’t yet thought about driving in winter weather conditions, Matt Frampton, South Central PA Highway Safety Coordinator wants to provide you with tips to help keep you safe on the highways during this Winter Season.

Registration for the 2019 ATSPA Conference, "Prepare, Prevent, Provide," is open until March 29, 2019! The 2019 conference will be held at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center on April 23rd and 24th. Starting with the 2019 conference, registration will be based on individual ATS/ATSPA membership status. If you have any questions on your membership status, contact Allyson at [email protected].

Sponsorship Opportunities: Receive recognition and exposure for your organization in return for your contribution to trauma prevention. Multiple levels of sponsorship are available for 2019!

Award Information: ATSPA is pleased to offer five awards to be presented at the Recognition Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 in Hershey, PA. Nominations must be received no later than January 25, 2019.

Exhibitor Opportunity: Network with over 200 physicians, nurses, first responders, trauma social workers, and student attendees from various parts of the state. Exhibitor rate includes all conference sessions, meals, and continuing education credits for two exhibit representatives.

Scholarship Opportunities: Students pursuing degrees in nursing, social work, physical or occupational therapy and pre-medical can apply for a scholarship that covers their cost of attendance and conference meals (a $300 value!). Applications are due January 25, 2019.

Kids with concussions- can phase in exercise, screen time sooner than before.
In light of recent research, this month the American Academy of Pediatrics updated its  guideline  for treating mild brain trauma, urging physicians and parents to let kids return to school sooner, and allow them to use electronics and ease back into physical activity after just a couple of days of rest.

Member Perk: Stop the Bleed
ATSPA is proud of the work that ATS/ATSPA member hospitals are doing to educate communities about Stop the Bleed. Starting in January, ATSPA will have three Stop the Bleed training kits available for ATS/ATSPA member institutions to borrow and members will also be able to order tourniquets to provide to school districts and community groups. Stay tuned to the ATSPA website, social media, and email blasts for more information on this upcoming member perk!

CO Poisoning: What you need to know.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every year, at least 430 people in the United States die from accidental carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Winter months like December and January are the peak times for CO poisoning. CO is an odorless, colorless gas, which can cause sudden illness and death, and is produced any time a fossil fuel is burned.
