US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon will visit Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, October 24-29, the US Department of State said.
"Through Under Secretary Shannon's trip, the United States looks forward to strengthening durable government-to-government and people-to-people ties with Central Asia," the Departments of State said.
On October 24, Shannon will travel to Astana, Kazakhstan where he will meet with government officials and alumni of U.S. exchange programs. He will also visit the 2017 EXPO site and tour Kazakhstan's National Museum.
In Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, October 26-27, Shannon will meet with government officials, members of parliament, and civil society leaders. He will speak at the American University of Central Asia, meet with the university's C5+1 Youth Council representatives, and visit the Urkun Memorial.
Finally, Shannon will travel to Tashkent and Samarkand, Uzbekistan to meet with senior government officials, business and civil society leaders, and visit several cultural heritage sites, including the Registan and the burial site of former president Islam Karimov.
This will be Shannon's first visit to Central Asia. He will commemorate each state's 25 year anniversary of independence and highlight the strong and growing partnerships between the Central Asian states and the US government through Secretary John Kerry's C5+1 initiative, a platform for discussion and joint regional action on issues of common interest.


Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli met with First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov on Thursday, calling for more cooperation in infrastructure and energy.
Zhang recalled President Xi Jinping's state visit to Uzbekistan in June and cooperation agreements under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Zhang called on both countries to implement the consensus reached between the heads of state, synergize development strategies and promote cooperation in industry, infrastructure, energy and resources.
"Both sides should improve the trade and investment climate and make new progress in practical cooperation," Zhang said.
Thanking China's unselfish assistance to the national development of Uzbekistan, Azimov said Uzbekistan regarded China as a diplomatic priority and supported the Belt and Road Initiative.
Azimov said Uzbekistan was willing to work with China to develop the bilateral relationship.
Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, also met with Azimov on Thursday, pledging to enhance cooperation in trade, security and culture.


The Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan held its regular meeting on 20 October.
Deputies considered a number of bills aimed at further deepening the reforms carried out in various spheres of society, protection of rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens.
The issues included in the agenda of the meeting of the lower house of Parliament, were previously discussed at the meetings of factions of political parties and Deputy group from the Ecological movement of Uzbekistan, committees of the Legislative chamber with the participation of representatives of ministries and departments, civil society institutions.
The deputies began their work with a discussion in the first reading the draft law "On combating corruption", submitted for consideration to the Legislative chamber of the Oliy Majlis by Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoev.
As was noted, since the first years of independence, Uzbekistan has embarked on the construction of a democratic l egal state and forming a strong civil society, rule of law, protection of rights, freedoms and legitimate interests, the reforms in all spheres of public-political life of the country.
The meeting participants pointed out the importance and timeliness of the bill, which is aimed at a comprehensive legislative regulation of legal relations in the field of combating corruption, improving the efficiency of anti-corruption measures undertaken by public authorities, organizations and institutions of civil society, as well as the complete eradication of this phenomenon in all spheres of public life, increasing legal awareness and legal culture of citizens.
The representatives of all factions of political parties and Deputy group from the Ecological movement of Uzbekistan expressed their opinion on the draft law.
In particular, the members of the faction of Movement of entrepreneurs and businessmen - liberal democratic party of Uzbekistan, having approved the draft law emphasized that the adoption of the law will create additional legal guarantees to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, will contribute to protection from unlawful attacks on the right to private property, undue interference in the activities of business entities, and as a result, growth in business activity and increase of investment attractiveness of the country.
Members of the Democratic party faction "Milliy Tiklanish" emphasized the urgency of this bill and its socio-economic im portance. It lays down the main principles and directions of the state policy on combating corruption, the system of the competent authorities, provides for the participation of local authorities, civil society institutions, media and citizens in the fight against corruption.
The adoption of the law will be another practical step towards the deepening of democratic reforms in the country and the formation of a strong civil society.
The members of the faction of People's democratic party of Uzbekistan supported the bill for consideration, noted that the establishment of the Republican Interdepartmental Commission on counteraction of corruption with inclusion in its structure of representatives of public associations of entrepreneurs and other civil society institutions is aimed at ensuring coordination and strengthening of interaction in this field.
The members of the faction of the Social democratic party "Adolat" fully supporting this bill, drew attention to the fact that corruption in the sphere of administrative activity is among the factors that may hamper the realization of the rights of citizens. In this regard, the draft law introduced by the Interim President of the Republic of Uzbekistan proves the specificity of the measures adopted by the state in the field of combating corruption. The implementation of this law will further ensure compliance with international law and increase the credibility of our country in the international arena.


I International fruit and vegetable fair will be held in Tashkent on November 8-10, 2016. Organizers of this fair are «Uzbekoziqovqatxolding» Holding Company, «Uzagroexport» JSC and «Directorate of the International fruit and vegetable fair» Ltd.
Main purposes of the fair are:
-wide acquaintance to foreign partners the potential of Uzbekistan in the sphere of fruit and vegetable production;
-establishing long-term and reciprocal partnership relations between the fruits and vegetables producers, processing enterprises and foreign companies-importers;
-conclusion of favorable contracts on delivery of fruit and vegetable.
During the fair Uzbek companies will have the opportunity to present their products, find a new sales market for agricultural products and foreign business partners during this fair. As for foreign participants it is the opportunity to find Uzbek partners for supplying fruits and vegetables.
Wide range of food products such as fresh, dried and processed fruits and vegetables, melons and legumes, spices produced in Uzbekistan will be presented at the exhibition halls.
It is expected that more than 150 domestic fruits and vegetables processing suppliers, representatives of ministries, agencies and organizations from all regions of Uzbekistan will participate at the International fruits and vegetables fair with their products. Foreign partners will be supplied with all information they need.
It should be mentioned that local fruit and vegetable farmers and producers particularly interested in foreign processing and retail companies.
In order to create the favorable cooperative ties between local producers and foreign participants in the pavilions of "Uzexpocentre" will be organized special "conference rooms", wh ere suppliers and representatives of foreign trade enterprises can have direct negotiations for procurement of goods.
At the same time special tours to fruit and vegetable processing enterprises, cold storage facilities, and extensive gardens will be organized for foreign participants to show the infrastructure of local food sector.
 
Registration for participants is open through November 5, 2016.
