From the Pastor
Where do I even begin to write a thank you note to a community, a congregation, and a family for all the prayers, support, love, more prayers, cards, food, hugs, good thoughts, and so many more things?
Probably with the words, “thank you.”
Thank YOU and Thank God!
There is nothing real or logical I remember from walking into the emergency room to waking-ish up in the ICU in Des Moines. I’m told that was about 5 to 6 days. My dreams told me that I was THE ONE AND ONLY person that held the cure for childhood chickenpox in my DNA. My dreams told me that the hospital staff knew and intentionally treated me with very little humanity when they basically glued mitts (it was Velcro) to my hands so I could not pull the tubes out of my nose (again for the third time.) Also, I was on a treasure hunt and worked hard to grab the jewels that had fallen just outside of the small wooden boat I was floating on.
Of course, none of that was real.
Funny now, but scary at the time.
What I do remember, over and over again, are the times Robert and my dad told me of all the people praying for me. Those prayers - your prayers - became the tether that helped pull me out of the strange and scary dreams I was living, to the reality of the love, support, faith, and goodness that was waiting for me.
You all were my reminders our loving God is ever present in this world.
You all ARE the evidence that Christ is alive and well in the good times, the bad, and everything in between.
Unfortunately, I did not wake up with all the answers to the ‘Why’ questions we all have.
What I know for certain is that God is alive in you, prayer works, and no one should ever put mitts over my hands! (I will fight you and win!)
Thank you (with all the emotion and feeling it possesses), thank you, thank you.
I love you!
