To address the unintended implications of the growing short-term rental industry, the Alberta Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), in partnership with the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC), has released best practice guidelines for local regulation of short-term rentals.
AWC is seeking input on source water protection practices, processes, and risks to drinking water sources in Alberta through two surveys: one aimed at public and private sector, and one aimed at individuals. The results from the surveys will inform developing a guidance document on protecting drinking water sources.
A recent decision from Ontario helps confirm that municipalities have the power to exclude difficult or unsatisfactory contractors from submitting tenders or proposals for future work with the municipality. However, it also serves as a warning that any time municipalities want to exercise that power, they must do so in a fair and transparent way.
