Provincial government has rejected principles of local democracy AUMA asked the provincial government to respect the principles Alberta’s municipal leaders endorsed to safeguard fair and democratic local elections. We are deeply disappointed the government has chosen to proceed without incorporating our feedback for amendments to Bill 29: Local Authorities Election Amendment Act (LAEA) 2020 .

Registration now open for Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus Registration is now open for AUMA's Summer Municipal Leaders’ Caucus. Caucus will consist of a one-day program that runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the schedule and agenda will be the same at all locations. AUMA will adhere to the Chief Medical Officer of Health's COVID-19 guidelines. July 29 – Fairview | August 6 – Vermilion August 11 – Stony Plain | August 19 – Nanton August 20 – Sylvan Lake

Update from the Legislature: "Safe restart” funding agreement reached The federal government reached an agreement with provinces and territories on the “safe economic restart.” This agreement is a promising start at addressing the financial crisis municipalities face in this pandemic, as we work to protect frontline services for Canadians, and prepare to help lead Canada’s economic recovery.

Call for nominations – AUMA Board of Directors AUMA is seeking nominations of qualified candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. View the candidate nomination package, review the guidelines for determining an individual’s candidacy, and download the relevant nomination forms and submission instructions.

Applications open for AUMA committees If you are a municipal elected official or senior administrator and want to shape the direction of AUMA, consider applying to serve on one of AUMA’s committees. Participating on a committee provides an opportunity to influence the direction of policy and programs for AUMA, increase your network, and give back through leadership.

Premium credits to Benefits clients now in excess of $1.8 million Since we serve members and not shareholders, we have worked hard to help many of our Employee Benefits clients with premium credits. We are pleased to announce that we have passed along over $1.8 million in savings directly to our clients and their employees.

The Alberta Water Council (AWC) is looking for members to participate in a project that will create a source water protection web platform. The commitment is approximately four months, and two to three full-day meetings. The deadline to submit your interest is August 7, 2020. If you are interested, please contact Anuja Ramgoolam ( aramgoolam@awc-casa.ca ).   The Government of Alberta is currently welcoming nominations for the 2020 Minister’s Seniors Service Awards. Nomination forms and additional information are available at alberta.ca/mssa. The nomination deadline is August 11.
