The COVID-19 health emergency has prompted revisions to the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and its regulations, enabling Council meetings to be held entirely by electronic means.

AUMA invites members to participate in a one-hour webinar on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. to support the municipal transition to electronic meetings.

Alberta’s municipalities and AUMA fully support the provincial government’s April 7 announcement about amending the Emergency Management Act.
New COVID-19 testing criteria announced
Beginning April 5, the testing criteria for COVID-19 has been expanded to include first responders, group home and shelter workers, home care workers, correctional facility staff, and anyone who is involved in enforcement of COVID-19 measures.

AUMA has developed a guide for municipalities to outline the variety of programs available and actions taken by the Government of Canada and Government of Alberta to stabilize the economy as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Miistakis Institute, in partnership with the City of Edmonton, has created a website with comprehensive resources and information on implementing an ecoroof in Alberta.







AUMA and RMA shortlisted for an Alberta Emerald Award!

For almost 30 years, the Emerald Awards have recognized and celebrated outstanding environmental achievements across Alberta. On March 27, AUMA and RMA were shortlisted in the Community Group or Not-For-Profit Association category for the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre initiative.
The AUMA and RMA nomination demonstrates how these two associations have collaborated over the past 10 years. Their collaborative initiative has resulted in many benefits for municipalities and other organizations, including:
  • 27,075 solar PV modules installed;
  • 536 clean energy projects;
  • 319 participants, including 102 municipalities;
  • $2.5 million in annual energy savings;
  • 336,915 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) avoided; and
  • $39.2 million invested in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
