Happy New Year!

AURP looks forward to expanding and supporting our current members and attracting new members and sponsors in the New Year.

The role of research parks and innovation districts has never been more crucial in building inclusive, sustainable communities of innovation!
Many AURP members serve as anchor institutions in or near federal Opportunity Zones (OZ), which provide tax incentives for investment in real estate and operating businesses. Most commentators believe new regulations issued last month will spur more investment to OZs with anchor institutions. Stay tuned to AURP OZ programming in 2020!
BUILD THE BIO HEALTH CAUCUS

In 2020, AURP will continue to support bio health innovation communities at university hospital and independent health science centers. The world’s largest tech transfer meeting, AUTM, will take place in San Diego, March 8-12, where AURP will help lay the groundwork for the BIO Health Caucus taking place in San Diego, June 7-8, at the BIO International Convention (June 8-11). AURP will showcased in the BIO exhibition hall – and we hope to see you there!
ADVOCATE FOR PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY

A federal government shutdown was prevented and significant new funding for US EDA and federal research was accomplished at the end of 2019. See details in the Member Portal in our VSA Washington DC Update section presented by the Innovate Coalition and our partnership with SSTI.
INCREASE CORPORATE-UNIVERSITY-COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

In 2019, AURP helped produce a research park workshop at Ohio State University and a session on research parks in non-metro areas as part of UIDP conferences, and we are members of NACRO, the Network of Academic Corporate Relationship Officers. We plan to support more university – corporate connections as underpinnings of robust research parks and innovation districts.
INNOVATION ELEVATED

AURP will be present at Silicon Slopes in Salt Lake City in January 31, in preparation for the AURP International Conference on November 3-6: INNOVATION ELEVATED. The Silicon Slopes organization is one of the largest and most prominent annual tech events in the world, bringing out more than 20,000 attendees. If you're attending, let's connect in Utah!
CONNECT GLOBALLY

More than ever, the need for international cooperation in research and technology is paramount. Through our international partnering organizations, including Fraunhofer University , Industry Innovation Network (UIIN), and others, AURP will host international delegations and support international research partnerships. Watch for more information on our Egyptian Ministry of Education in Egypt delegation, expected to meet with AURP membership while in the US in 2020.
PREDICT THE FUTURE

Thanks to our friends at UIIN for their The Future of Universities Thoughtbook! Edited by AURP members and supporters, including Cameron McCoy, Mason Ailstock, Arno Meerman and others, the book includes 40 perspectives on the shape of entrepreneurial universities in 2040.
