University City Science Center has named Timnit Abraha as Vice President, Real Estate. Abraha joins the organization following the retirement of its long-time Senior Vice President of Real Estate Curt Hess.
Hess’ achievements during his 19-year career at the Science Center include the joint venture with Wexford Science & Technology in 2015, which resulted in the subsequent expansion of the campus and rebrand to uCity Square. For the last three years, Abraha has served as Director, Harvard University Real Estate. Read more.
AURP CEO Brian Darmody will be the featured presenter on a live webinar (March 24, 1:00pm ET), hosted by Tech Transfer Central, on "Capitalizing on Federal Funding Opportunities to Build Communities of Innovation Around Universities." Brian will talk about how the new funding landscape can be leveraged to build public/private research partnerships around university campuses and expand their innovation ecosystems. The Prince George’s County (MD) Economic Development Corporation (EDC) earlier this month celebrated the launch of the Prince George’s County Tech Council (PGCTC). The event, attended by AURP CEO Brian Darmody, included a focus on PG County's already robust set of assets including NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the University of Maryland and its Discovery District, plus IonQ, which received the AURP Innovation Award at AURP's 2021 International Conference at the University of Utah Research Park. US EDA Build Back Better Regional Challenge update: EDA last February provided comprehensive technical assistance to Build Back Better Regional Challenge finalists as they prepared for their Phase 2 applications (with its deadline having closed this past Tuesday, Mar. 15). The information shared at the February technical assistance training can be helpful to any community working to transform their regional economy, create jobs or develop inclusive economic development strategies for growth. Learn more.
