AURP IC2022 SESSION SPOTLIGHTS!
FOSTERING A
NARWAHL ECOSYSTEM

Which North American region is ranked #17 in the world by Startup Genome, the #1 small tech talent market in North America and boasts the second highest density of startups per capita anywhere in the world? The Waterloo Region!

The Region has a reputation as one of the most robust startup ecosystems globally. Yet times are changing, startups are growing and the Region's new leadership is focused on taking the ecosystem to the next level.

For our AURP IC2022 Networking Luncheon (Wed., Sept. 21), three leaders in Waterloo's tech ecosystem - Chris Albinson, Amber French and Jay Krishnan - will talk about evolving a startup ecosystem to scale up, fostering "narwhals" (what Canadians call Unicorns or billion-dollar companies) and what they're focused on as we head into increasingly uncertain times.

Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Executive Director Paul Zielinski recently published an article on "Renewal Deadline Endangers SBIR and STTR." Paul writes: "Agencies are taking various positions on the fate of the program . . . Other agencies are postponing their SBIR programs or at least delaying new funding opportunity announcements pending the outcome of the reauthorization issue. But no matter the result, it is already an uncertain future for a program that boasts some impressive results." Read more.

Congratulations to Greg Napier with Purdue Research Park's Accompany, and his family, on the recent wedding of their daughter, Selah!

When the Purdue Research Park team opened its first building, then 8-year-old Selah stood in the grand lobby and said: “Dad, do you think some day I could get married in here?” Through some special permissions, 14 years later . . . it happened! Purdue Research Park’s first wedding.
