Member News: Purdue Research Park Profiled
Purdue Research Park, over the course of its 50 years as a certified tech park in Indiana, has helped fuel the development of research parks at Purdue and across the state, according to a story in The Exponent.

In 2015, Purdue announced plans to establish the Research Park Aerospace District by the airport, adding a new certified tech park.
Participating companies in the aerospace district include Saab Defense and Security, Rolls-Royce and Schweitzer Engineering Labs.

Statewide, Indiana's tech research parks are helping drive robust entrepreneurial and high-wage job growth. "Across seven of Indiana's 22 tech parks, there are about 350 technology-based companies providing approximately 6,000 jobs," according to the article. Learn more.

NC State Centennial Campus Breaks
Ground on Plant Sciences Building
AURP Member NC State Centennial Campus broke ground last September on its Plant Sciences Building.

The Plant Sciences Building will be built with the "flexibility to allow teams of scientists working on specific projects to move in and out of the building," according to NC State.

Flad Architects, which designed the five-story 185,000-square-foot building, will allow for “creative collisions — ones that would spark problem-solving."  Learn more.
The CEO's Corner: Brian Darmody
The Maryland Technology Development Corporation - TEDCO Entrepreneur Expo last October hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of AURP's “HQ2” in the University of Maryland, College Park's Discover District.

The ceremony included many AURP friends and stars including MD⁩ Commerce Secretary Kelly Schulz, AURP CEO Brian Darmody and AURP Board Member Julie Lenzer!
AURP's Brian Darmody was hosted by the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt this month where he presented on the history and evolution of research parks and innovation districts around the globe to a distinguished group of Egyptian university presidents and representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and other campus representatives. Follow up, including a visit to US research parks by a delegation from Egypt, is expected in 2020.
The Alliance for Support of Technology and Research in America (ASTRA) held an Opportunity Zone (OZ) briefing on Capitol Hill in the US Senate Russell Senate Office Building earlier this month (Dec. 5). The hearing included remarks by AURP's Brian Darmody, along with representatives from the National Governors Association (NGA), Opportunity Alabama, and the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute and others.

Many research parks and innovation districts across the US are part of OZs, Brian said, and new regulations expected to be issued soon may lead to an increase in the amount of capital available to research park infrastructure and operating businesses in OZs.
Happy Holidays! And a personal wish for Happy Holidays and a Prosperous 2020!
