Our theme - “INNOVATION REVOLUTION: The Power of People, Places and Purpose” - is designed to generate dynamic ideas for professionals in high-tech economic development - both for those new to the field and with more experience.

Our host, STAR Campus at the University of Delaware will share their inspiring story. Like the symbolic Phoenix rising from the ashes, this sector, marred by defunct industrial warehouses, has evolved into a thriving commercial region, a driving force for R&D, changing lives through economic and innovation discoveries.

Our 2023 Compensation Survey empowers you to be competitive with compensation arrangements for your leadership team. The Survey should take 3-5 minutes to complete. The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has released an expanded fact sheet for its Tech Hubs program. The EDA's new fact sheet is designed to help those interested in applying for the upcoming Tech Hubs funding opportunity, outlining applicant eligibility requirements, timelines and other program details. AURP's Brian Darmody attended the Federal Lab Consortium’s (FLC) National Meeting in Cleveland, bringing together training, education and networking opportunities to facilitate lab-to-market efforts to increase federal tech transfer. Several AURP member federal labs and research parks were present including Sandia National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, LSU Innovation Park, Georgia Tech, and TEDCO (MD). Moderating "Creating Communities of Innovation From Federal Laboratories", Brian Darmody's panel included presentations by (in photo, l-r) Kirsten Rieth, RTI, Strategy and Innovation; Mikaela McShane, NASA Technology Transfer Expansion; and Rita Doerr, NSA Cybersecurity Collaboration Center.
Port San Antonio recently approved an agreement with Trammell Crow Company to conduct pre-development work for a state-of-the-art office tower at the main entrance to the 1,900-acre technology campus. The planned tower will be a marquee centerpiece for the region's growing profile in advanced technologies. The building's ultimate size and expected construction cost will be determined as pre-development work is completed in the coming months. Read more.
Eli Lilly and Company last Monday broke ground on the company’s two new manufacturing facilities at the LEAP (Limitless Exploration/Advanced Pace) Innovation and Research District (located in Lebanon, IN between Purdue University and Indianapolis). This move boosts Lilly's overall plans to invest more than $3.7 billion and add roughly 700 new jobs in Lebanon, while representing the largest manufacturing investment at a single location in the company’s history. Read more.
The University of Illinois recently approved the design of the new Discovery Partners Institute (DPI) headquarters, planned as an anchor for a new innovation district in Chicago’s newest neighborhood. Located on a 1-acre site in The 78, an innovation district on the Chicago River, DPI’s headquarters will feature more than 200,000 square feet of office, classroom, lab and event space for DPI and its education and industry partners. Groundbreaking is expected in spring 2024. Read more.
The Maryland Department of Commerce (an AURP Annual Sponsor) last week hosted a trade investment summit in Baltimore with the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Discussion included presentations by: the Netherlands on its research parks and life sciences sectors; Baltimore-based Under Armour on its EU headquarters in Amsterdam; and on the upcoming AURP Bio Health Caucus meeting in Boston, June 4-5 (held in conjunction with the 2023 BIO International Convention).  
AURP CEO Vickie Palmer and CSO Brian Darmody attended HBCU Engage | UIDP Spring Conference in Nashville. AURP members and friends, Kevin Byrne, The University Financing Foundation, David Tyndall, Collaborative Real Estate, Kevin Sullivan, Shaw University, Freddie Willis, Jr., Harris-Stowe State University, and Raymond Trapp, Research Triangle Park, addressed the group on new models of university-engagement and place making reshaping university-corporate partnerships in building innovation districts. Attending this UIDP event supported AURP's goal of growing and diversifying our member-partner base and providing opportunities to attend AURP events through the Regional Partnership Development Program.
