Nets Major Development Expansion
Terrapin Development Company, in partnership with the University of Maryland College Park, has entered into an exclusive development agreement with Brandywine Realty Trust to develop a world-class, mixed-use neighborhood spanning five acres within the University of Maryland’s Discovery District (which also is home to AURP's Washington, DC area office).

The $300+ million development project will feature 550,000 square feet of innovative workspaces encompassing research, office, collaboration and retail space, plus 200-250 multifamily residential units. This project is designed to accelerate ventures of all kinds —from startups to Fortune 500 Company headquarters — and will serve as a natural extension of the University’s renowned research enterprise. AURP invites you to submit your Speaker Proposal, due April 2nd. We're looking for proposals that reflect sound learning principles, best practices in the field, informed by research and practice.

Member News: VTCRC Receives Grant to
Fund Planning for New Life Sciences Labs
The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center (VTCRC), in partnership with the Virginia Tech Foundation (VTF), has been awarded a grant from the GO Virginia program to fund the evaluation and design of new lab concepts to serve southwest Virginia’s growing life and health sciences industry.

The award is part of the Enhanced Capacity Building program that will support Virginia’s Region 2.

“We’re honored to be selected to lead this project," said Brett Malone, PhD, CEO of the VTCRC. "The VTCRC is dedicated to making flexible lab space more accessible for smaller startups as well as some of our high-growth companies. This effort will lead to much-needed resources that will help us grow our biotech industry, recruit new companies, and create valuable jobs for our local economy." Read more.
Industry News: EDA Hits Milestone of
$1B in CARES Act Grant Awards
The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) marked a recent milestone by awarding $1 billion in CARES Act grants to help communities and regional economies respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

With its CARES funding, EDA worked to support communities impacted by the virus, including through the infusion of funding to existing partners comprising Economic Development Districts, Revolving Loan Fund administrators, University Centers, and Indian Tribes, plus competitive investments made to additional grantees across the country.

Under the CARES Act, EDA also launched a $25 million Scaling Pandemic Resilience Through Innovation and Technology (SPRINT) Challenge to enable organizations to address the economic, health and safety risks caused by the coronavirus pandemic through entrepreneurship and innovation. SPRINT Challenge grantees are expected to be announced in the near future. Read more.
