Member News: ASU Holds Ribbon Cutting for Wexford Phoenix Biomedical Campus
Arizona State University held a virtual ribbon cutting last month to open up part of its Wexford Phoenix Biomedical Campus Building 1 (PBC1) in downtown Phoenix.

ASU broke ground for this $77 million state-of-the-art facility in 2019 via a partnership with the city of Phoenix and real estate development company and AURP member Wexford Science & Technology.

This partnership saw an opportunity to bridge the surrounding neighborhoods, the academic community and the professional community through research, entrepreneurial activity and corporate engagement to create a thriving knowledge community. Read more.
Member News: Perkins&Will's Stephen Coulston to Join Panel at LEAF Int'l Conference, 4/29
Stephen Coulston, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, Principal with Perkins&Will, is set to bring a research park and innovation district perspective to the "Re-designing the Modern Workspace, Focusing on Wellbeing and Health" panel at the International Conference for the Leading Euro Arc Form, April 29. This year’s event theme is Designing the Post-Pandemic City.
Member News: COI Energy Services Honors USF Research Foundation's Allison Madden
COI Energy Services recently honored AURP Board member, Allison Madden, Director of Research Foundation Operations with the USF Research Foundation.

As part of a recent social media outreach campaign, COI Energy devoted the month of March to highlighting women who are making an impact in their Circle of Influence.

"COI Energy thrives in part because of the work that Allison Madden does as the Director of Research Foundation Operations, at The University of South Florida," according to one of COI Energy's posts. "She works hard to ensure that the USF Research Foundation’s strategic planning, construction, maintenance, budget, marketing, and design projects are completed and executed to the excellence that can always be expected from USF."
Member News: Tech Parks Arizona's The Bridges Project Featured in Tucson Media
Tech Parks Arizona Associate Vice President Carol Stewart was recently interviewed by Inside Tucson Business, providing updates on Tech Parks AZ's overall work and the progress of its major development, The Bridges.

The Bridges is comprised of 65 acres designated as UA Tech Park at The Bridges and is part of a larger 350-acre multi-use development known as "The Bridges" which includes residential and retail development in central Tucson.

The article, which includes mention of AURP, also noted that the UA Center for Innovation, a startup business incubator network operated by Tech Parks Arizona, doubled the number of startups (currently 46) it has served over the last year in the midst of the pandemic. Read more.

Industry News: EDA University Center Competition Opens for Philly, Chicago Regions
The US Economic Development Administration (EDA) is accepting applications for its University Center Economic Development Program competition for accredited institutions of higher education (or a consortium of accredited institutions) for the Philadelphia and Chicago regions.

EDA University Centers provide technical assistance to build regional economic ecosystems that support innovation and high-growth entrepreneurship, resiliency and inclusiveness.

Industry News: New Report Issued on American Rescue Plan Funding Opportunities
Drexel University's Nowak Metro Finance Lab and Accelerator for America have issued a report, "American Rescue Plan: Federal Investment Guide," providing in-depth context and details for communities to optimize American Rescue Plan (ARP) funding.

The report's authors include Bruce Katz, Drexel University Nowak Metro Finance Lab; Colin Higgins, Drexel University Nowak Metro Finance Lab; Karyn Bruggeman, Drexel University Nowak Metro Finance Lab; Aaron Thomas, Accelerator for America; and Paige Sterling, Accelerator for America. Other partners contributing to this report include the United States Conference of Mayors and the Center for Inclusive Growth.

The report places particular emphasis on formula funds to be received by local anchors and competitive grants and funds distributed to public authorities that city leadership can leverage to boost their recovery. Sections of particular interest to research parks and innovation districts include:
