Industry News: NFCR Salisbury Award Competition Applications Due Feb. 28
Lab investigators or scientific executives of young oncology technology company spin-offs are encouraged to apply for the Salisbury Award Competition for Entreprenurial Translational Research sponsored by the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

The event is designed primarily for established labs or pre-Series A start-up firms developing promising novel cancer therapeutic, diagnostic, preventive and platform technologies which could be or are being commercialized. Applications are due February 28. Learn more.

Dr. Suzet McKinney has joined as Principal and Director for Sterling Bay's Life Sciences Division.

In her new role, Dr. McKinney will oversee Sterling Bay's relationships with the scientific, academic, corporate, tech and governmental sectors involved in the life science ecosystem, plus manage the experience and facilitate the growth of life science tenants in Sterling Bay developments. Oklahoma State University recently named Zachary Miles as senior AVP for Technology and Economic Development.

Previously Zach served as AVP for economic development at UNLV, where he oversaw tech transfer, commercial collaborations, UNLV’s Small Business Development Center and was executive director of UNLV’s Research Foundation. Read more.
Ray Trapp has joined the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina as VP of Strategic Engagement.

A Greensboro native, Ray is coming to RTP after serving as director of external affairs at North Carolina A&T, leading the university in government relations and advocacy. Read more.

A virtual ribbon-cutting for Rosalind Franklin University (RFU) of Medicine and Science's Innovation and Research Park will take place this Thursday, January 28. RSVP.

RFU's Innovation and Research Park is designed to be an environment for collaboration and creativity among academic and industry scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs. Center Receives $246K EDA Grant 
University City Science Center is among seven grant recipients of EDA's STEM Talent Challenge to boost local STEM talent.

The inaugural STEM Talent Challenge funding opportunity kicked off last summer to further build STEM workforce readiness and spur innovation across the nation. Awardees include entrepreneurship-focused organizations such as the Science Center with projects in a range of emerging and transformative industry sectors. Read more.
Member News: VA Tech Innovation Campus to Benefit from New $10M Alumni Gift
Virginia Tech has announced it has received a $10 million gift from Octo Consulting, founded by VT alums.

The gift will primarily support the newly renamed Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, which will be headquartered at VT’s Innovation Campus in Alexandria, VA. The $1 billion Innovation Campus (now under construction) will eventually enroll 750 graduate students. The Innovation Campus project is part of the State of Virginia's earlier successful effort to attract Amazon's HQ2 to Northern Virginia. Read more.
Member News: UA Center for Innovation Receives Subsequent NREL Award
The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) has received an additional three-year award from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to support a variety of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) American-Made Challenges. This comes in addition to UACI’s 2020 appointed commitment as a Power Connector for NREL’s American-Made Solar Prize Challenge. Read more.

AURP CEO Brian Darmody has posted a new blog item on "AURP at 35!" In this piece, Brian writes: "Thirty-five years ago, there was no Internet as we know it. No Facebook. No Twitter. And no Zoom meetings! But in 1986, a group of universities gathered in Arizona to form a non-profit association to advance university outreach, innovation, and corporate partnerships through research parks." Read more.
