AURP has joined over 100 other technology organizations and research universities across the U.S. to urge Congress to reauthorize the SBIR/STTR programs, which fund research projects for many companies in AURP Member research parks and universities. The State Science and Technology Institute (SSTI) has led the work crafting a letter (to Congressional leaders), which, among other points,
asserts that this funding source for vital research and innovation in the
U.S. must not be disrupted. Read more.
The Ohio State University and institutions of higher education across the state celebrated Intel's recent announcement of its plans to invest more than $20 billion in the construction of two leading-edge microchip factories in the state. The new factories will be largest single private sector investment in Ohio's history. Read more.
HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology generated $3.2 billion in economic impact for Alabama from 2006 to 2020, according to the Center for Management & Economic Research at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. HudsonAlpha's impact for the state centered on employment, revenue and capital expenditures. Read more.
Philadelphia's University City Science Center has released its Science Center 2021 Impact Report, reporting on the groundwork Science Center has laid for the future, plus includes stories exploring how the center has powered progress to advance healthcare innovation, uplift communities and improve lives. The Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI) | BioFabUSA has named Julie Lenzer, formerly with UM Ventures (and past AURP Board Member), as its Chief Innnovation Officer to create programs and funding for startups and drive commercialization of leading-edge technologies.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is accepting applications from eligible organizations to operate Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Centers in Kentucky, Nebraska, Rhode Island and South Dakota. NIST will award up to $19.8 million to support four centers that will provide MEP services to small/medium-size manufacturers in these states. Read more.
The University of Utah's David Eccles School of Business and the Joan and Tim Fenton Family Foundation have announced the creation of the $5 million Joan and Tim Fenton Founders Fund aimed at supporting startup companies formed by business students or others within the broader university network. Read more.
The University of Kentucky, in collaboration with Turner Construction, is developing a program called the Construction Diversity Accelerator (CDA) to provide tools, resources and opportunities to minority- and women-owned businesses in the construction industry. The CDA program is 10 weeks and will cover important topics like safety, site logistics, insurance and bonding, contracts, subcontracting, construction drawings and specifications, estimating, scheduling, bid and proposal preparation and more. Read more.
The University of Kentucky also has released its 2021 Annual Report of its Economic Development Collaborative (EDC). The EDC Core Committee includes leaders from its economic development engagement areas: the Coldstream Research Campus, the Stuckert Career Center, UK Innovate / Office of Technology Commercialization, the Community and Economic Development Initiative of Kentucky, the Office of Business Engagement and the Von Allmen Center for Entrepreneurship. Read more.
