JobsOhio, Ohio's private economic development corporation and AURP Member, was awarded a gold Stevie® Award last week in the large government or non-profit organization category in the 20th Annual American Business Awards®. The American Business Awards are the US's premier business awards program. JobsOhio has played a pivotal role in convincing Intel to choose Ohio as the site for a new high-tech campus to manufacture semiconductors. This move will create thousands of high-paying jobs in the state. Read more.
AURP CSO Brian Darmody recently published a new column in BioHealth Innovation on "The ARPA-H (Health) Headquarters: Where Will It Be, and Should I Care?" In the column, Brian writes: "ARPA-H will be an important vehicle to create new health cures and bio ecosystems. Hopefully, the question of its headquarters location will not distract from the important work it and other federal research partners will undertake as Congress and White House pivot to providing more applied research tools to improve our country’s economic and scientific competitiveness." The NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships, or TIP, this week announced the launch of its Regional Innovation Engines, or NSF Engines, program. This program harnesses US science and technology research and development enterprise and regional-level resources. The NSF Engines program aims to generate robust partnerships rooted in scientific and technological innovation to positively impact the economy within a geographic region. Proposals for NSF Engines funding are due June 30, 2022. Learn more about this program via its upcoming NSF Engines Road Show. Read more.
UConn Tech Park recently welcomed its newest team member, Mike DiDonato, who was appointed to the new position of Business Development Manager. In this role, Mike focuses on developing new relationships and fostering collaborations with external corporations, providing significant opportunities to leverage capabilities and offer novel solutions to technological and business challenges. Mike previously was with Thermatool in East Haven, CT, working in the high frequency welding industry where he started his career after graduating from WPI in 2004. Read more.
The Colorado State University Research Foundation (CSURF) recently announced Lynn Johnson has joined the CSURF team as Chief Financial Officer, starting May 9. Lynn is a Certified Public Accountant and served as CFO for a non-profit cancer research center in Denver prior to joining Colorado State University (CSU) in 2003. Over her 19-year career at CSU, Lynn served the university as Director of Sponsored Programs, Director of Business and Financial Services, University Controller, and most recently, as Vice President for University Operations and Chief Financial Officer. Read more.
The Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) held a ribbon cutting ceremony last month to celebrate the opening of the new John A. Gordon Albuquerque (NM) Complex, which resides as part of the Sandia Science & Technology Park. The three-story, 330,000 square foot structure houses nearly 1,200 employees who support NNSA’s national security missions. The building was named in honor of NNSA’s first Administrator, the late Gen. John A. Gordon, for his contributions to the Nuclear Security Enterprise. Read more.
The University of Kentucky's Coldstream Research Campus has been named a Finalist for UEDA's annual Awards of Excellence in its "Place" category. UEDA's Awards of Excellence are given in recognition of outstanding economic development initiatives, research or accomplishments. The finalists, including the Coldstream Research Campus, will present their projects at the UEDA Summit (Oct. 9-12, San Antonio). Over the past 12 years, the Coldstream Research Campus has grown over 500,000 square feet of building space with another 344,000 under development for a total of
over 1.7 million square feet. Read more.
