The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education recently announced the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (home of the bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park) is now in the category of doctoral universities with high research activity (known as R1). UMBC is now ranked as one of only 146 R1 institutions nationally, including 107 public and 39 private universities. Read more.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) - an anchor tenant of Cummings Research Park - also has achieved the highest research activity rating in the 2021 update of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. UAH is now ranked as R1 – "Very high research activity” status among doctoral-granting universities in the Carnegie classifications. UAH last was ranked R1 in 2014. Read more.
The University of California, Davis, the city of Sacramento and project developer Wexford Science and Technology this week celebrated a milestone in the UC Davis's Aggie Square project with a ceremonial groundbreaking. Located on UC Davis’ Sacramento campus, Aggie Square is an innovation hub that brings together university research and teaching, industry and the community to create opportunities for communities across the region. The Utah Governor's Office of Economic Opportunity Business Elevated Podcast recently hosted #AURP CEO Brian Darmody and University of Utah Research Park's Jonathon Bates with the State of Utah's Pete Codella on the topic of Utah's prowess in fostering innovation and business growth. Discussion centered on how and why 85% of Utah's life science companies trace their roots to the University of Utah. Listen here.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Castillo visited Philadelphia last month to announce eight grant recipients for the 2022 $2 million STEM Talent Challenge (which includes Philly's Wistar Institute) while Assistant Secretary Castillo also visited University City Science Center (which was a 2021 STEM Talent Challenge grantee). Kate Ryan, who serves on AURP's Membership Committee, joins McCownGordon Construction as a business development manager in its Manhattan, KS office. McCownGordon Construction is recognized as one of the region’s largest construction managers with offices in Missouri, Kansas and Texas. 
BioMADE, a new Manufacturing USA Institute located at the University of Minnesota, has awarded $5.8 million in federal funds to 16 projects aimed at accelerating U.S. bio-manufacturing knowledge, capabilities and workforce. AURP's Brian Darmody will discuss bio-manufacturing at AURP's BIO Health Caucus in San Diego, June 12-13. Read more.
Jessa Turner, director of communications for Tech Parks Arizona, has been appointed 2022 president of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Southern Arizona Chapter.
The PRSA Southern Arizona Chapter serves members and professionals throughout the Greater Tucson region and beyond including surrounding communities from Douglas to Yuma. Read more.
