The NASA SBIR/STTR program’s Phase I solicitations (which opened last Januar) close next week on March 9, 2022 at 5:00pm ET.

AURP members attended the AUTM Annual Meeting in New Orleans last month. AURP CEO Brian Darmody and Kris Khalil with New Orleans BioInnovation Center, spoke on financing bio incubators and bio innovation districts in the US. The University of Utah Research Park and Tech Parks Arizona were featured on a panel, moderated by AURP sponsor Ballard Spahr, examining building local tech ecosystems through university tech commercialization offices.
Gensler, a global architecture, design and planning, cites innovation districts as a Top 5 Global Trend in their annual design forecast: "Innovation districts will continue to thrive. Campus planning used to be inward-focused; now, institutions are looking at how they interact with surrounding communities. To spur innovation and create new synergies, developments have expanded from single-use facilities to mixed-use ecosystems as innovation districts emerge." Read more.
Oklahoma holds a unique place in the global aerospace industry, especially considering its key assets (including a key FAA facility,Tinker AFB and a large aerospace workforce) needed to advance aerospace technology, unmanned aircraft systems and solar-powered aircraft technology. The state also has the deep-rooted investment of a highly trained and specialized workforce base – the Native American community, especially with the Cherokee, Choctaw and Osage Tribes. Read more.
Former University of South Dakota (USD) President James W. Abbott last fall became interim president and CEO with the USD Discovery District, helping the innovation community move one step closer toward making the much-anticipated initial Discovery District building a reality. Abbott, who retired in 2018 after 21 years of leading the state’s flagship university, was instrumental in the creation of the Discovery District. In addition, the South Dakota House recently approved $15 million for the construction of a biomedical facility at the Discovery District. Read more.
The Prince George’s County (MD) Government has released a RFP from highly qualified individuals and/or development teams to purchase and develop 15 adjacent County-owned parcels, currently an underutilized parking lot that closely complements ongoing development in the UMD Discovery District. The County seeks to convey the Property to encourage mixed-use development that will closely complement ongoing development in the UMD’s Discovery District and on the historic main UMD campus. Submissions are due April 15. Read more.
