Share your knowledge, expertise and experience with innovation leaders from around the world at AURP's 2023 International Conference (AURPIC2023) hosted by the the University of Delaware's (UD) Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus.


Our theme - “INNOVATION REVOLUTION: The Power of People, Places and Purpose” - is designed to generate dynamic ideas for professionals in high-tech economic development - both new to the field and with more experience.

STAR Campus comprises roughly one million square feet of real estate, including multiple buildings, wet labs and more than 30 high-growth companies in fields ranging from health care to biotechnology, financial technology, agricultural science, advanced materials and more.

AURP Forms New Caucus Supporting Communities of
Energy Innovation
AURP has just announced formation of its AURP Clean Tech and Building Resiliency Caucus. This new Caucus further expands AURP’s organization scope to include clean tech firms and developers building energy-efficient facilities and communities of energy innovation. Learn more.

The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) and AUTM are hosting a pitch competition at the Green Energy Innovation Expo (AURP will have an exhibit table) at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, May 17 in Alexandria, VA.

AURP Members should consider this opportunity to share any green energy storage or production innovation with VCs and angel investors. Successful pitches may receive funding.

Deadline to submit pitch applications is March 31. Selections for the pitch competition will be made April 21. Technologies pitched must be supported by federal grant funding or be developed by a federal lab. Learn more.

Shawnee State University recently celebrated the grand opening of its Kricker Innovation Hub – a flagship facility in downtown Portsmouth, OH to inspire entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity in the southern Ohio region. Project support comes from Jim Kricker, Portsmouth business leader; the State of Ohio; and a key investment from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. Read more.
As part of a $50 million grant from the U.S. EDA to the H2theFuture coalition in South Louisiana, the New Energy Center of the U.S. will be established at The Beach at UNO. A $10 million federal award from the Build Back Better Regional Challenge will be matched by $5 million in state funds. Known as NEXUS, the new center will serve as the physical and programmatic hub for a range of clean energy initiatives. Read more.
AURP's Brian Darmody last week attended the National Association of Development Officers Washington Conference in Washington, DC. The conference focused on support for federal policies and programs to boost regional economic development. Mrs. Michelle Gilliam Jordan, Executive Director, with the Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments, discussed the role of U.S. EDA and economic development districts in strengthening regional economic development and the role place-based investments, including research parks, play in achieving economic prosperity. The office of Top of Alabama Regional Council is located in Cummings Research Park in Huntsville.
The University of Arizona Center for Innovation (UACI) netted an economic output of $35.3 million in 2021, according to a new analysis of the center's impact. Part of Tech Parks Arizona, the UACI is a business incubator network that empowers science and technology startups to bring their ideas to market. The economic analysis provides a snapshot in time based on data from the 52 startups enrolled in UACI in two different locations during 2021. UACI currently has 81 startups in three locations. StandardAero, a provider of aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services with major operations in Port San Antonio, has entered into a major agreement with CFM International to maintain and modernize some of the top commercial aircraft used today. StandardAero's services will be provided at the company's largest complex, established 25 years ago in Port San Antonio's technology campus. The San Antonio team will provide a full range of services within the 810,000-square-foot set of facilities. Read more.
Auburn Research Park is set to host a new research facility housing the National Soil Dynamics Laboratory. Groundbreaking was held for this new project by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, Auburn University's College of Agriculture and the Auburn Research & Technology Foundation. This new research facility will include two new buildings at Auburn Research Park and two additional buildings at a second site near the university’s campus. Read more.
