Kari: "Innovation Saskatchewan, the province’s innovation agency, offers programs and investments that support the research community and tech sector. We fund six major research institutes and operate successful research and technology parks in Saskatoon and Regina. By fostering economic growth and diversity, we support Saskatchewan’s Growth Plan goal of tripling tech sector growth by 2030.

The West Virginia Regional Technology Park (Tech Park) announced this week that Helicon Chemical – a leading innovator in developing drop-in-ready, upgraded binder for government and commercial propulsion systems – is the Tech Park's newest tenant. The Tech Park and Helicon celebrated with a ribbon cutting event at the South Charleston, WV technology park campus. The event marked a significant milestone in the growth of both Helicon and the Tech Park. The addition of Helicon to the park’s dynamic roster of tenants further solidifies its position as a hub for cutting-edge research, development and innovation in the region. Read more.

The University of Delaware (UD) STAR Campus (host of our 2023 International Conference, Oct.16-19) recently saw its first restaurant – Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen (dubbed the Grain Exchange) – open (helping to serve as a collision space where people across backgrounds and disciplines can connect to discuss ideas). In a new article in Expansion Solutions Magazine ("Market Robust for Science, Tech Parks"), Kevin Byrne, president and CEO of The University Financing Foundation, says the research parks sector is seeing “unprecedented levels of interest from institutions and industry to collaborate, and thus unprecedented levels of demand for space to accommodate.” Will Germain, CEO and Managing Partner for MCB Science + Health, in Chicago, and AURP's Brian Darmody also are quoted. Arizona State University and Applied Materials Inc. this week announced an alliance, aided by the Arizona Commerce Authority, that brings more than $270 million to create a shared research, development and prototyping facility – the Materials-to-Fab (MTF) Center – in the university’s MacroTechnology Works building at ASU Research Park. Arizona is one of the nation’s key centers of microelectronics activity – home to some of the nation’s leading semiconductor producers and suppliers. Read more. | | |
The Delaware Technology Park (DTP), winner of AURP's 2005 Research Park of the Year, is leasing out the final parcel for construction of a three-story, 100,000-square-foot facility that aims to become a hub for life science and research companies. This new facility also will provide wet-lab space for commercial spinouts from the University of Delaware. Kurt Foreman, president and CEO of the Delaware Prosperity Partnership (DPP), lauded efforts to further DPP’s mission to attract, grow and retain businesses in Delaware. Read more. | | |
AURP on the Road: AURP's Brian Darmody participated in a briefing last month with NASA Goddard’s Strategic Partnerships Office and members of the local space business community at the Prince George’s (MD) Economic Development Corporation HQ on ways to involve federal labs in regional ecosystems. Discussion included mention of AURP's Air and Space Caucus and the role of federal labs in supporting space businesses and the construction of partnering facilities outside of federal lab campuses. U.S. Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD), in photo, participated in the discussion. | | |
