AURP: "Hi Wayne - great meeting you at our #AURP2021 Space Day meeting at the University of Utah! What's a new development or project at Arrowhead Park?"


Wayne: "In support of a statewide initiative to grow the film and media sector, Arrowhead Park is working with the New Mexico Economic Development Department to develop a $15 million soundstage complex in our Creative Campus. When complete in 2025, the project will provide a terrific economic boost for southern NM and great new opportunities for our students going into this exciting industry!"

Biden Administration Names UDelaware's Mike Bowman to Advisory Committee on Trade Policy


President Joe Biden last week appointed J. Michael Bowman, Associate Director of the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships at the University of Delaware, to the administration's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.


MIke joins this Advisory Committee which was established to provide overall policy advice to the U.S. Trade Representative on matters arising in connection with the development, implementation and administration of U.S. trade policy. Mike, who played an instrumental role in hosting AURP's 2023 International Conference last fall at the University of Delaware's STAR Campus, also serves as Founder and CEO/President of the Delaware Technology Park and as the State Director of the Delaware Small Business Development Center.


Over the past 25 years, Bowman has led the growth of a robust technology-based ecosystem and assisted a variety of small businesses to thrive throughout Delaware. Read more.

AURP Survey: Two-Thirds of North American Research Parks & Innovation Districts Report Active New Building Projects 


More than two-thirds of North American university-based research parks and innovation districts report they are currently building or about to start major building projects, according to new survey results from AURP and Canadian-based consulting firm, Stiletto Consulting Ltd.


These new survey findings also show nearly 88% of responding parks and districts cite funding for capital investment infrastructure as their top challenge in 2024. Read more.

Elevate Rapid City Releases Market Assessment and Workforce Development Plan RFP


This project will develop a workforce development strategy for the mining technologies industry in Rapid City, SD. The project is part of the Economic Development Administration’s Tech Hubs program, respondents to this RFP should be qualified and eligible to work on federally funded projects. The strategy should help Rapid City and the Black Hills Region apply for and achieve designation status as an EDA Tech Hub. All submissions are due by April 19th to be eligible for

Nexus LA Seeks RFPs from Executive Search Firms to Recruit President/CEO Position


The Nexus Louisiana Board of Directors is accepting proposals from Executive Search Firms interested in offering services for recruiting candidates for its President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position. The submissions from participating firms will undergo a thorough comparison and evaluation in accordance with the criteria outlined in this RFP. Respondents must submit a comprehensive proposal by April 3rd. Learn more.

AUTM held its 49th annual meeting recently in San Diego with great representation from AURP members as registrants and panelists. 


Over 2,000 attendees gained insights from more than 90 educational sessions, including the role of university-based entrepreneurship; expressing strong concerns how the NIST guidance on march-in rights will make the nation less competitive; and opportunities with new tech hub funding from the National Science Foundation and U.S. EDA.


The event provided opportunities to promote upcoming AURP events including AURP's BIO Health Caucus returning to San Diego, June 2-3, 2024, and AURP's International Conference in Bentonville, Arkansas November 11-14, 2024.


AURP Chief Strategy Officer Brian Darmody moderated a panel on corporate relations at universities working with tech commercialization offices that featured representatives from AURP members UCSD and San Diego State along with the Scripps Institute and Georgetown University.  


AURP Member institutions in attendance included: George Washington University, University of Arkansas, University of Kentucky, Ohio State, University of Minnesota, University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Michigan State, University of Arizona, University of Utah, Stanford, Penn State, LSU, University of Illinois, University of Oklahoma, and Oregon State. AURP Sponsors in attendance were NIIMBL, TEDCO and Gardner Innovation Search Partners.


AUTM will hold its 50th Anniversary meeting in Washington DC in the Spring of 2025.

The University Financing Foundation, Inc. (TUFF) announced its second investment in Pittsburgh via acquisition of a 90,000 square foot, five story wet lab facility anchored by Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh’s Drug Discovery Institute. TUFF’s first acquisition in 2021, Bridgeside Point 1, is a 160,000 square foot wet lab, classroom and patient-facing specialty research facility, primarily occupied by UPitt. These two buildings also are near Hazelwood Green, an 178-acre area being redeveloped into a hub of innovation, creativity and well-being. Read more.

Nominations have opened for the 2023 Prix Galien USA Awards. The Prix Galien Awards were created in 1970 to honor biomedical research and medical technology products that improve the human condition. Those involved in therapeutic innovation are invited to submit innovations for consideration in one the following categories: Best Medical Technology; Best Digital Health Solution; Best incubator / Accelerator/ Equity; and Best StartUp. The University of South Florida is strengthening its collaboration with Tampa Bay Wave and the St. Petersburg Innovation District through the creation of a new program that addresses some of the nation’s most pressing environmental concerns. The BlueTech|X Accelerator, led by Tampa Bay Wave, will bring together small businesses and entrepreneurs who are pioneering ocean, coastal and Great Lakes-based solutions through observation technologies, plus products and services that address climate resiliency needs. NASA and the Texas A&M University System have announced an agreement to lease underutilized land in Exploration Park, a 240-acre development at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston. The A&M System will develop a facility to enable human spaceflight research and development to fuel the commercial space economy. (Photo, l-r: Texas State Rep. The International Economic Development Council has announced the first cohort of Economic Recovery Corps (ERC) fellows and host communities. Launched in 2023 through a $30 million cooperative agreement with the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), ERC is designed to build capacity in some of the hardest-hit and most economically distressed areas across the U.S. while cultivating the next generation of economic development leaders. Read more.

The University of Maryland (home to UMD Discovery District) ranks among the world’s best academic institutions at transforming research and discovery into patents, according to the National Academy of Inventors. Along with other schools in the University System of Maryland, the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP) ranks ninth among U.S. public institutions – up five spots from the previous year – and 21st in the world for patents awarded in 2023 (compared with 32nd in 2022). One new UMCP patent is for devices and methods for converting methane to develop green and sustainable energies. Read more.
