Spring Symposium

April 22–23 | Pendleton, OR

The AUVSI Cascade Spring Symposium was a tremendous success, bringing together leaders, innovators, and influencers from across the uncrewed and robotic systems ecosystem for a day and a half immersed in “Dronetown USA,” one of the nation’s most active hubs for UAS innovation.

A huge thank you to our outstanding speakers and presenters whose insights created a dynamic environment for learning, collaboration, and forward-thinking discussions across the UAS community.

Continuing a tradition launched last spring, attendees also welcomed the 12 finalists of the Oregon UAS Accelerator, selected from more than 60 applicants worldwide. Guests had the opportunity to experience breakthrough innovations presented live, vote for the People’s Choice Award, and witness the announcement of the overall Accelerator winner.

On April 23, attendees visited the Pendleton UAS Range for the Tech Showcase, featuring live UAS demonstrations from Ocko Navigation and Gambit Defense, technology displays, networking opportunities, and mission-focused applications showcasing the future of autonomous systems operations.

We’re planning our Fall Symposium, and if you’d like to get involved as a speaker or sponsor, let us know. Watch for more details coming your way!

FAA & Drone Industry Updates – May 2026

Flight Ops Update

As of May 2026, the FAA has proposed new drone restrictions that would allow critical infrastructure sites, including energy plants, refineries, and other high-risk facilities, to request “no-fly” zones to improve security and clarify airspace rules.

Key Drone Updates:

  • The FAA proposal would allow 16 critical infrastructure sectors to establish restricted airspace through a new online portal.
  • A 60-day public comment period begins May 6, 2026.
  • The FAA continues increasing enforcement against unsafe drone operations, including flights near wildfires and crowded events.
  • The FAA also launched the DETER program to address unauthorized drone activity.
  • DJI drones currently remain operational under Part 107, though some future firmware updates and support may be limited for certain models.

Operational Reminders:

  • Ensure Remote ID is active and compliant.
  • Always check for temporary or permanent flight restrictions before flying, especially near stadiums, emergency incidents, and sensitive locations.
