Carpool Safety/Reminders

It is hard to believe that there are only four weeks of school left. The weather is getting nicer (most days) which means we will have more students walking or riding their bikes to and from school. We need to be extra careful and observant of our students and anticipate that they may not be as focused on cars and crosswalk safety as they should be.

We have also seen an increase in concerns being reported to us from parents and neighbors regarding carpool issues both on AVA property and on Low

Meadow Blvd.

These concerns focus mainly on four issues:

Let’s be good neighbors. In the past couple of weeks AVA has received several complaints from neighbors regarding cars parking and blocking driveways while dropping off kids or waiting to pick up kids. There have been concerns with people turning around in the middle of the street and driving on lawns as they are trying to turn around.
Speeding. We have also seen quite a few cars traveling too fast on Low Meadow Blvd. during carpool time and this is not safe. We have many students and parents crossing the street and we want everyone to be safe. Also, please keep an eye on your speed while on AVA property. Kids will be kids and may unknowingly wander into the drive lane which makes it that much more important to keep the speeds in check.
Distractions while in the carpool line. Please do not check cell phones, tablets, or other devices once the carpool line starts moving. All it takes is one quick moment of taking your attention away from watching where you are going for an accident to happen.
Parking in no parking areas on Low Meadow Blvd. Please do not park in the no parking areas that have been identified with either No Parking Signs or stripes on the roadway indicating no parking.

Castle Rock Police said they will try to have more patrols around the school during carpool hours to help with these concerns. The safety of our students, staff, and parents is always a top priority for AVA. Thank you for paying attention and helping us with this.

Middle School Only News

8th Grade Continuation

Wednesday, May 24th

Dinner 5:30pm for 8th Grade Students Only and Invited Staff in Elementary Gym.

Ceremony 6:30pm with Family in the Middle School Gym

Dance 7:30pm for students in Elementary Gym.

In order to prepare for our continuation ceremony, we are wanting to get an accurate count of who will be in attendance. General Announcements

Dress of Choice is Tomorrow, Friday April 28th

We will be celebrating the wonderful staff of AVA next week from May 1st-5th. Please click here to see the letter from the PTO and see how your child can join in to celebrate their teacher or another AVA staff member each day.

There are still a few staff members that need to be adopted. Remember, you are free to shower as many staff members as your family chooses, this is just to make sure that everyone feels the love! Please click on the signup genius to choose one of our awesome staff members from the list.

Free Dress of Choice, Monday May 1st

On Monday, to celebrate our teachers, students can enjoy free dress day and dress in their teachers’ favorite color. Your classroom parents will be reaching out to provide your teacher’s favorite color or they can dress in green and blue to celebrate the entire staff.

May 24th is the 8th grade continuation and we need your help to make this event a success. Please click here to volunteer.

The AVA Board of Directors Candidate Questionnaire is now available to review. As per Board Policies, there are two seats that will open at the end of this year, one of which is an electable seat. We have received questionnaire answers from two candidates, and you can access their responses at this link.

Voting will be held from May 12th through May 16th, in accordance with the AVA Board Election Policy. Each parent and AVA staff member is entitled to one vote.
