Grades 3-5 are considered upper elementary grades. These are the years when students are beginning the transition from lower elementary to their middle school years. It is a wonderful age because they are beginning to get to know themselves more. Aspen View Academy has the best educators to support students as they learn and develop during these years.

Third graders are becoming more independent, they know what is fair and not fair, they are yearning to learn more, and want to show their funny sides. Fourth graders care deeply about school and what happens in the classroom and with their friends. They love to show what they know and explain their thoughts in great detail. Fifth graders are unique in that they are not so young anymore but they are not quite middle schoolers yet. It is fun to see them grow into their own person.

As the 3rd-5th Grade Assistant Principal, I love being able to have a first hand look and see the transformations going on all around me on a daily basis. I see changes and growth in their learning experiences and in the way they work and play together both in and out the classroom. New friendships are formed along with keeping their current friends. I also love to see how the students light up with each new learning experience.  In science, this fall, third graders will be investigating all about animal adaptations. To connect with their experiences, they will be going on a field trip to the Museum of Nature and Science. Towards the end of October, fourth grade will be hosting a Medieval Fest after they learn all about Medieval times in their History classes. During the Festival, they will present their knowledge through different activities. Soon fifth graders will be exploring ecosystems and different environments. They will be going to the Downtown Aquarium to enhance their learning.

As you can see 3rd through 5th grade years are pivotal and transforming as our students change and grow from the elementary ages to the middle school ages. It is awe inspiring to watch this transformation happen with our wonderful students as they are guided, challenged, and educated by our fantastic teachers and staff at Aspen View Academy. We are so glad and appreciative that you trust us enough to have your children come to AVA.

Volunteer Hours = Fun Family Night

Aspen View Academy strongly encourages all families to perform 30 approved hours (15 hours for single parents) of volunteer service. It's a fantastic way to support your students and get to know other parents, as well as the AVA staff.

All AVA families who have completed 10 service hours by November 30th or (5 hours for single parents) will be invited to a fun family night hosted by the PTO held in December. More information on this fun event will be coming in early November.

We will also be having a fun family night at the end of the school year for those families who have met their hours for the school year.

IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed child cares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed. Below are the vaccines required for students attending Colorado licensed child cares and schools.

Vaccines required to enter school (K-12)

Hepatitis B.

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTap).*

Inactivated poliovirus (IPV).*

 Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR).*

Varicella (chicken pox).*

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap).**

*Students 4 through 6 years of age are required to have their final doses of DTaP, IPV, MMR and Varicella prior to kindergarten entry.

**Students are required to have Tdap prior to entry into 6th grade. One dose of Tdap is required for 6th through 12th grades.

If you choose not to have your student vaccinated according to the current recommended schedule because of personal or religious reasons, you must submit a Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption to AVA when school begins in August.

Nonmedical exemptions must be submitted annually, which means parents must submit the certificate every new school year. (The school year begins on July 1 and runs through June 30 of the following year.) There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption:

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption received upon the completion of the online education module.

Downloadable certificates and the online education module are available at

Please see the list of this year's project prompts and sign up using the link here.

Sign up is free and all projects will be completed at home, but participants are offered to attend free biweekly workshops after school in room #223 (ES STEM Lab) supported by Castle View Technology Student Association students.

All projects and documentation must be submitted during the week of November 18th-22nd. Judges will spend the next couple of weeks assessing the projects. Boosterthon

We're excited to introduce this year's main fundraiser, the Aspen View Academy Wolf Run. Our goal this year is to raise $100,000 for a greenhouse, school grants, field trips, fun school events, and volunteer appreciation to benefit ALL students at Aspen View Academy.

We’re excited for this fundraising experience because it offers 3 important things to our school community:

      User-friendly fundraising platform

      Character enrichment program

Fitness-focused event that includes ALL of our students

As a family, you will work together asking friends and family to donate on your student’s Donation Page at MyBooster.com. The best part is, you can still support our school just by SHARING about the fundraiser!

Students will also experience an amazing character enrichment program called “Castle Quest”, teaching students about how to be brave and live with character.
