Hi AVA Families,

We hope that each of you had a fun + relaxing summer! We know it went way too fast but we are excited that the 2023-2024 school year has started.

As board members of the PTO, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for all that you do for AVA students. We truly appreciate the time you give volunteering, the ideas you share with us, and all of the helping hands you offer.

At the heart of our PTO's mission is the belief that community is essential to creating a positive learning environment. We believe that when parents, teachers, and students work together, we can achieve great things.

As we begin a new school year, we want to share with you how we plan to further build AVA's community within the school. We are preparing for several new events including:

-family paint the rock night

-Coffee with the Principal + SRO

-Reading Under the Stars

-Family Holiday Paint Night

-BINGO Night

-Valentine's Day Flowers

-Glow Party

-Movie Night

-End of Year Family Volunteer Party

-a new wolf mascot + naming contest

...plus many more!!

We want these events to be a welcoming and inclusive environment while encouraging open communication, and providing opportunities for you to get involved in the school. We'd love to have your help planning and implementing these events!

We are committed to supporting you in any way we can to help build a strong and supportive community at our school. We encourage you to reach out to us if you have any ideas or suggestions for ways we can work together to achieve this goal.

Thank you again for all that you do, and we look forward to a successful school year ahead.

Sincerely,

The PTO: Jaime Hinrichs, Alex Nejad, Jessica Simon, Cheryl O'Neil, Jamie Hurdle

Coffee with The Principal

In the newsletter a couple weeks ago I mentioned that I am going to start having a monthly coffee with the principal. This will be a great opportunity to come in person and hear what is going on at the school and to ask questions that you may have. It will also be a great chance to meet some new parents.

The first coffee with the principal will be on Wednesday, September 13th at 8:30am in the cafeteria. Coffee will be provided!

Please click here to sign up so we know how many to plan for.

Do you want to get involved in the school but don’t have a lot of time? The School Accountability Committee (SAC) has several openings for new members. The SAC is a sub-committee of the Board of Directors and meets minimally 4 times a year to review policies, implement the Feedback surveys, and perform any other tasks requested by the Board. Each member serves a two-year term. If you are interested, please join the first meeting of the year for the SAC on September 20th in the AVA library at 4pm. Questions? Please email jessicashepler13@gmail.com

Let's make this school year the most awesome one yet!

The Aspen View Academy Community Business Directory will be a resource for all families and staff to use to find local businesses. Please submit one form per business. Forms must be submitted by September 15th, 2023 at 11:59pm. Please submit a new form if you were part of the directory last school year.

Volunteer Hours = Fun Family Night

Aspen View Academy strongly encourages all families to perform 30 approved hours (15 hours for single parents) of volunteer service. It's a fantastic way to support your students and get to know other parents, as well as the AVA staff.

All AVA families who have completed 10 service hours by November 30th or (5 hours for single parents) will be invited to a fun family night hosted by the PTO held in December. More information on this fun event will be coming in early November.

We will also be having a fun family night at the end of the school year for those families who have met their hours for the school year.

School Pool by Way to Go

Each year we provide families with resources to help with carpooling to and from school. This service is provided by a third party, Way to Go. We share the information with them and they will mail families vicinity maps to help you in coordinating a carpool with other AVA families who live in your area. We give families the opportunity to opt out of this program if they do not wish to have their information shared with other AVA families in your area. If you choose to opt out please click here. You will have until TODAY August 31st to opt out

Every year we provide this great tool to the AVA Community. The All School Directory is provided on the AVA website and it is password protected. The password will only be emailed to the parents or guardians listed on their student registration. But before it can be published, those families wishing to opt out must complete this form. Please note that you may opt out to all or partial information. If you wish to opt out of all your information, please know your student's name will still be listed in the classroom list within the directory.

The directory will be available on the website beginning of September. Once the directory is available it will be password protected so please look for the password in an email in early September. All families are automatically opted in to the directory.

To  OPT  OUT of the All School Directory you MUST complete this form. The deadline to complete this form is TODAY Thursday, August 31st.

IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed child cares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed. Below are the vaccines required for students attending Colorado licensed child cares and schools.

Vaccines required to enter school (K-12)

Hepatitis B.

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTap).*

Inactivated poliovirus (IPV).*

 Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR).*

Varicella (chicken pox).*

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap).**

*Students 4 through 6 years of age are required to have their final doses of DTaP, IPV, MMR and Varicella prior to kindergarten entry.

**Students are required to have Tdap prior to entry into 6th grade. One dose of Tdap is required for 6th through 12th grades.

If you choose not to have your student vaccinated according to the current recommended schedule because of personal or religious reasons, you must submit a Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption to AVA when school begins in August.

Nonmedical exemptions must be submitted annually, which means parents must submit the certificate every new school year. (The school year begins on July 1 and runs through June 30 of the following year.) There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption:

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption received upon the completion of the online education module.

Downloadable certificates and the online education module are available at
