Phase 2 of the expansion is almost complete
We are rounding third and ready to score. I am very happy to share that we are just about done with phase 2 of AVA’s expansion project. While it has been a long journey filled with some inconveniences and disruptions to our daily routine, the result is well worth it.
The interior work will be complete by Friday, March 3rd. The exterior work will take a bit longer due to the unusually high number of weather delays that have impeded the outside work (rain, cold, snow, wind, and freezing temperatures). Back to the interior progress. AVA added a middle school theater/drama classroom, a middle school band/music room, an additional bathroom for the students, an incredible stage, and an amazing gymnasium. Additionally, we will have an impressive entry hallway which opens up our space and will be very spacious.
AVA will be celebrating the completion of phase 2 with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, March 6th from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Please join us if you can as we unveil our new space and allow everyone to explore the new spaces. I think you will be impressed with what you see! Please enter through the main doors and meet in the lobby. AVA will provide treats and water!
Full-time School Resource Officer for AVA in 2023-2024
You probably have heard me mention over and over just how important school safety is for AVA. You should expect your child’s school to be one of the safest places they go to. While I absolutely believe that to be true, we are always looking for ways to make it safer. I am happy to announce that AVA is working with the Castle Rock Police Department to have a full-time school resource officer (SRO) at our school. Essentially, this officer will be an AVA employee even though they are a Castle Rock Police Officer. This officer would be at AVA every day for the entire day. Our SRO would work with our students and staff to ensure we provide the safest learning environment possible and work with groups such as WATCH DOGS to make sure they are looking through a different lens as they help at school.
The AVA board has approved moving forward with the full-time SRO and I have been working with the CRPD to start the process. If everything goes as planned, we will have our officer begin in August when school begins for the 2023-2024 school year. AVA will be the first charter school in Douglas County to have a full-time SRO dedicated to just one school.
