As we navigate the winter months, there are unique challenges that this season can bring for families. There are fewer daytime hours to enjoy, fewer outdoor opportunities to gather with our community, and a higher likelihood of illness that can add to our winter blues. These are realities that all families are coping with, and we are here to support you and your children. Together, we will continue to build the resiliency and fortitude that grows confidence in your child’s abilities.

The roller coaster of weather this time of year can cause an increase in intense emotions. Create an open space for your child to express their feelings appropriately. Acknowledge and validate their emotions, fostering resilience through a sense of understanding and support. When your child is calm, you can normalize the feelings by sharing a personal story and strategies that help you when you have had similar experiences. Practice the strategies with your child when they are in a normal state of mind so you can foster the use of this strategy when needed. Encourage them to view challenges like this as opportunities for growth. Setbacks are a part of life, but we use them to grow our resiliency and approach them with a positive mindset that those hard feelings are only temporary.

Social interaction and outdoor play can boost our children’s physical and mental wellness. When the weather is above a “feels like” temperature of 20 degrees, we will prioritize outside time for children to play and interact with their friends. Sending proper clothing that protects your child from the cold and empowers them to play in the elements outside will encourage fun-loving peer interactions during this time. Labels on all of these items will help us ensure your child gets them home to use on the weekends (since that is the only time these snow storms seem to come ;-).

As Mr. Barber pointed out in January, there are so many benefits to your child’s consistent attendance at school. Maintain those healthy routines with consistent sleep schedules and a balanced diet to support their immune system. When your child is healthy, please bring them to school. It can be hard to see the forest through the trees when you’re standing in the middle of it (i.e. a child who is resisting school routine in the morning), but we can assure you that each day your child is at school, they are growing in stunning ways academically and socially. Stay the course and know that all of your efforts are worthwhile.

Our community connection is an important part of overcoming these winter months. If your child needs extra support, please don’t hesitate to contact our teachers, counselors, or school administration. Remember that resilience is a skill that can be nurtured over time. By embracing practices that support the well-being of our children, we will help them continue to grow and thrive during these winter months. Wishing you and your family a resilient and joyful winter season! Spring is just around the corner.

Introducing our fabulous Book Vending Machines! Thanks to our rockstar PTO, we now have not one, but TWO of these book-tastic wonders.

So, what's the scoop? Students who exemplify the monthly character traits may be rewarded with a special token by a staff member. The token allows the student to select a book from either of our two vending machines!

Let the reading adventures begin!

Thank you PTO, thank you Board! Our students are lucky to have these amazing machines!

Staff Spotlight

As the Elementary Specials & STEAM teachers, these ladies have a unique position to see students learn outside of their core classes and tap into other skills they might have. For some of them, they get to see students shine where they may not elsewhere, because they are artistic, or athletic, or passionate about coding, but not necessarily the best traditional learner. These ladies are blessed to get to see every student in Elementary School, and work tirelessly to connect with each one of them.

Tina Hainer (Character Ed Teacher) is described as compassionate, thoughtful and helpful. Mrs. Hainer loves her job, because every activity and every day is completely different, depending on the class, the grade or the day. It is never boring. When she's not at work, she enjoys baking, home projects and reading.

Reagan Stohler (Elementary Music Teacher) is a soprano section leader at the Cathedral Basilica in Downtown Denver. She also enjoys spending time with her dog and her fiancé. Miss Stohler lives for the moments when a group of kids, no matter what age, can come together and make music. There is no better sound in the world than kids using their voices to sing their very best. She is talented, encouraging and considerate.

Amber Orness (Elementary Technology Teacher) loves having the opportunity and ability to positively influence her student's lives in some capacity. As a specials' teacher it's also fun to see the students grow over the 6 years they have them (K-5). Ms. Orness is optimistic, kindhearted and patient. She enjoys spending her free time paddleboarding, hanging out with her daughter and her puppy dog.

Kaycee Kunz (Elementary PE Teacher) likes being a specials' teacher because she gets to see their personalities grow each year as they become older. She is calm, funny and generous. Mrs. Kunz can be found spending her free time skiing, hiking, & traveling.

Irina Reynolds (Elementary STEM Teacher) is dedicated, engaging and determined. Mrs. Reynolds loves building relationships with students, fostering their individuality, and watching them exercise their creativity during their numerous hands-on projects. Outside of school she enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, hiking and spending time with her family.

Molly O'Reilly (Librarian) is passionate about opening up new worlds and ideas to students through books. Giving students the opportunity to learn, discover, and grow in their knowledge of themselves and the world are top priority for her. Mrs. O'Reilly is funny, resourceful and reliable. Outside of school she loves to travel around Colorado with her family, taking pictures, watching hockey or gardening.

Yolanda Rodriguez (Elementary Spanish Teacher) is compassionate, hardworking and friendly. Mrs. Rodriguez likes to teach kids because they are loving, caring, curious and eager to learn. Her students bring her happiness and she feels full of energy when she is working with them. During her free time she loves spending time with her family.

Maddie Lund (Elementary Art Teacher) Teaching art she gets to see how creative and talented her students really are, and she loves to be blown away by their skills. Miss Lund enjoys hanging out with her boyfriend, family, being outdoors with her family or doing crafts with her friends. She is creative, hardworking and loyal.
