Happy New Year Aspen View Families! We hope the beginning of 2024 has started off well for all of you! We are excited for the second half of this school year! We want to give a HUGE shout out to all the volunteers that helped make the first half of the school year such a success! We enjoyed seeing you at our events and really enjoyed celebrating you at our Volunteer Ice Skating Morning! As you are well aware, it takes an army of volunteers to plan and execute these school events. We are thrilled to have grown our volunteer pool this year! If you are wanting to get involved and haven't yet, please reach out to the PTO and we would be happy to get you plugged in to help!

Our End of Year Volunteer Appreciation Event is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of May. This event will be for families who have logged 20+ volunteer hours (10+ for single parent families). We are so excited to host this event at Ubergrippen. Details coming soon but you won’t want to miss it!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED:

Upcoming opportunities include:

1/16: Monthly PTO Meeting, 7:00pm (AVA Library or Zoom)

We would love to have a few extra hands to help us celebrate AVA staff during Staff Appreciation Week (beginning of May).

General Announcements

Spirit Wear Day Tomorrow, Friday, January 12th

On AVA Spirit Wear day students can wear any AVA t-shirt or sweatshirt purchased from the Wolf Shack or from a Wolf Run and they must wear their uniform bottoms. If you are not participating in Spirit Wear, uniforms will be required.

NO SCHOOL Monday, January 15th Martin Luther King Day

We have seen an uptick in students bringing over the counter medications (including cough drops, vitamins and homeopathics) and prescription medications to school without orders. Please remember that ALL MEDICATIONS need to have a Provider Authorization Form signed and turned in to the health room with the medication per DCSD guidelines.

After School Quarter 3 Clubs and Reminder

As we head into the new quarter next week a new round of after-school clubs will be starting. We are looking forward to another round of successful, interesting and exciting clubs for your students to choose from. We want to send out a few reminders.

First, all clubs will be starting at 4:00pm. Your students will be held in their classrooms until all call then they can transition to their club.

Second, please know that if a club is canceled the teacher will notify each club member as soon as possible to inform them of the cancellation. Since clubs start next week, sign ups will be open until Friday of January 19th . Students attending clubs are expected to follow the teachers’ rules and expectations just as they would in their classrooms. Poor behavior in an after-school club still has consequences including being asked not to come back.

Lastly, please make sure that club members are picked up on time. There is a five-minute grace period for your student to be picked up. After the five-minute grace period families will be charged $1.00 per minute. Teachers provide this service to our families because they are passionate about what they are teaching, but they also have responsibilities outside of school as well. We are asking that all families respect the teachers’ time and efforts in helping us make the clubs an enjoyable experience for everyone by keeping these things in mind.

We appreciate your support in making this a great experience for everyone!

Staff Spotlight

These three make up our Facilities Team at AVA. Their job is one many of us couldn't handle, because they see messes none of us would want to encounter, repair things that are damaged or broken, plus take care of all the day to day maintenance of our school. Not only do they do that each day, but they do it while smiling, taking time to talk to the kids, and while truly caring for the ins and outs of our school. We are so grateful for these guys and the job they do!

Jose' Casillas (Facilities Crew) is dedicated, diligent and cheerful. Outside of work he enjoys video gaming. Jose' enjoys working at the school, because he see's how smart and funny the students are. He loves to listen to them and give them the opportunity to share what's on their minds.

David Boyd (Facilities Manager) loves working at the school because seeing their smiling faces each day is great and watching them grow year after year. Mr. Boyd is hardworking, loyal and fascinating. When he's not taking care of the school, you can find him going on outdoor adventures with his family and taking care of his hobby farm, which includes two Colorado Mountain Dogs (Moose and George), goats, turkeys, and chickens.

Jaren Thomas (Facilities Crew) is joyful, hardworking and kind. Jaren loves being around the students to be a part of their community; to listen about their hobbies and hear how hilarious they all are. He enjoys building the connection with them. In his downtime, he can also be found playing video games.
