A message from the Board

Aspen View Community,

Happy New Year! 2023 is now upon us. A new year typically ushers in new year’s resolutions. Whether it is a goal to eat better, exercise more, spend more time with family, or kick a bad habit, new year resolutions typically give us a sense of hope for things to come. It’s a chance to improve on the previous year and focus on the future. This is no different for Aspen View Academy as we enter a new year. I’ve participated on the board of directors of Aspen View Academy since 2017 and we’ve seen some big changes since then. I can certainly tell you that Aspen View Academy has many exciting things to look forward to this year, possibly more than any other year. It may be the continued expansion of our curriculum, the end of massive construction projects in the next few months, or just the continued sense of community and culture that has developed at AVA, but I can definitively say that 2023 is filled with opportunities.

One of those opportunities in 2023 that I’d like for all of you to consider are the various openings we have on our board committees and in the PTO. You may remember that Bob addressed the school a few weeks ago about this very topic, but the importance of it commands a second showing. Your time being donated to the school not only helps in the various tasks it accomplishes, but it helps build one of the most important things in our Charter School culture. Charter schools are unique compared to neighborhood schools in that capacity. Charter schools are started and run by the families of the students and their very formation is founded in the idea that we can provide something different then what the neighborhood schools do. We can make sure that our children are receiving the best education possible and that all starts with volunteers. From the incredible work being done in the PTO, our board committees, and the classroom volunteers, everyone that donates time has a major impact on AVA’s culture. By spending time on things involving the school you are also sending a not-so-subtle message to your kids that AVA is important to your family. This helps drive the idea of giving back into our children’s minds through actions. So, I would like to thank every family that has gotten involved through volunteer opportunities at the school and encourage everyone that is considering it this year to go ahead and commit to it. Whether it's watchdogs or simply attending an event the PTO puts on, every hour that each of us invests in the school today will result in a better outcome for our kids in the future.

Elementary Students arriving to school before 8am

Elementary Students may only enter through the Main Entrance by the Flag Pole between 7:45-8:00am to go directly to the gym. They will not be allowed to enter through the Middle Doors during this time.

We are seeing an increase in the number of tardy students in the morning.

For Middle School Students, If your child arrives in the building after 7:58am they will be marked tardy (they should be in their seats by 8:00).

For Elementary Students, If your child arrives in the building after 8:12am they will be marked tardy (they should be in their seats by 8:15).

Parents, Please remember if your student is arriving late to school from a doctor's appointment, they will need to show a note from the doctor for this to count as an excused tardy, otherwise it will be marked as an unexcused tardy.

It is important to have kids in class and ready to go. Classes begin at 8:00am for MS and 8:15am for Elementary and having students arrive to class tardy is a distraction that can easily be avoided.

A reminder from the handbook:

Students who accumulate five or more tardies in a month will lose dress of choice privileges.

Thank you for making Aspen View Academy the best school!
