A message from the PTO

Yeehaw! Saddle Up for an Unforgettable Evening at Our Western-Themed Silent & Live Auction Spring Soiree!

We’re just two months away from our highly anticipated annual Spring Soiree, and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever! Over the past three years, the Spring Soiree has grown into one of our community’s most exciting events, featuring music, dancing, beverages, a silent auction, and a photo booth to capture all the fun.

Each year, the event has seen growth in both attendance and the funds raised. Last year, we raised an impressive $20,000, marking the first phase of a two-part fundraiser for our indoor climbing wall. This year, we’re continuing to raise funds for the second phase, and we couldn’t be more excited to have you join us!

The 2025 Saddle Up Spring Soiree will take place on Saturday, March 29th, from 6-9pm at Kirk Hall, Douglas County Fairgrounds. This year, we’re introducing not only a silent auction but also a live auction filled with amazing items.

What to Expect:

  • Silent & Live AuctionsBid on incredible items, including a coveted VIP parking spot, vacation packages, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
  • BBQ DinnerEnjoy a delicious BBQ feast, cooked to perfection by Papaw's Texas BBQ and guaranteed to satisfy any cowboy or cowgirl’s appetite.
  • Music & Dancing: Dance the night away to country tunes and show off your best two-step! The night’s entertainment will be provided by the talented DJ from Hovey Entertainment.
  • Photo BoothSnap a fun, western-inspired photo with friends and family, complete with props and themed backdrops.
  • Hat Bar: Top off your western look with a custom hat from our Hat Bar, where you can find the perfect accessory to complete your outfit.
  • Full BarRaise a glass with an array of beverage options, thanks to our Saloon Sponsors: Quiver Investments, Liliya Zelem with Your Castle Real Estate, Impact Team, and Albert Vein Institute.

This event is a fantastic way to support our school while enjoying an evening of fun, laughter, and community spirit. Whether you’re a seasoned auction pro or a first-time bidder, we can’t wait to see you there!

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February).

2nd Grade Universal Screen

As part of this process, ALL students in 2nd grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of February 3, 2025. This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates. These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.

Kindergarten/ 1st Grade Gifted Identification Referral Testing

  • If your child is in K or 1st  grade and you believe he/she needs evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
  • NOTE:  Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
  • Please request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE
  • Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.
