When I reflect back on this school year, I think about the wonderful learning our students have been exposed to this year. It has been so exciting to see first hand and up close all the wonderful educational experiences our students have been a part of this year.
Our third grade students have learned quite a lot this year! Recently they demonstrated their knowledge of famous people through a Living Biography Museum they hosted. Additionally, they will take the CMAS test this year for the first time and it is very exciting for them. During April and May, they will experience an Owl Pellet Experiment day, see the Cliff Dwellings on a field trip, host a Colonial Day, and learn more about light and optics through a STEM day at Skate City.
Fourth graders have had many fantastic academic experiences. During the 3rd quarter they learned about Colorado history and will have a concert with songs about Colorado and its history in April. In May the students will host a Living History Museum where they will present the information they have researched about famous historical people. In Science, fourth graders learned about Tectonic Plates. At the conclusion of this unit, they used graham crackers, fruit roll ups, and frosting to demonstrate how boundaries move and the results of that movement. Additionally, fourth graders recently studied Geology and will present their findings in class soon.
The knowledge that fifth graders have gained this year is incredible. They did a paper airplane experiment in Science earlier this year. Soon they will be learning and researching more about the environment. After they complete their research, they will write a letter to a company to persuade the company to practice more sound environment strategies when they make their products. Additionally, later in April they will reenact the Civil War to culminate what they are learning about American History in in their classes.
All these fantastic activities and learning experiences would not be possible without our dedicated, supportive, and wonderful teachers and staff. The best in our students is brought out because they find unique and creative ways to educate their students. They strive to diversify the activities to be able to meet the needs of their student's learning styles. We appreciate all the teachers and staff do to ensure our students learn in a creative, safe, and engaging environment.
As you can see, there have been quite a bit of diverse and exciting experiences for our 3rd-5th graders this year. I am thankful and delighted to witness this daily. I treasure these opportunities and I am thankful that you trust us to engage your students everyday in new and different ways.
