Admin Address

Each year, as we head into summer, we announce staff changes for the upcoming school year. For the 2023-24 school year, five staff members have decided to head off on new adventures. We thank each of them for contributing to AVA and wish them the best in their endeavors. Mrs. Risby, Mr. Curtis Bodiker, Mr. Marxen, Mr. Stengel, and Mrs. Punt--we will miss you!

Teacher turnover in the building creates opportunities for other staff members to take on new roles and challenges. We have quite a bit of movement heading into the upcoming school year, and I am excited to announce the following staff changes for next school year:

  • Ms. Fanning will join the admin team as the assistant principal for grades 3-5
  • Ms. Dixon will be AVA’s office manager.
  • Ms. Urzendowski will be moving to 7th grade history.
  • Ms. Ruth will join PreK as a teacher.
  • Ms. Tharp is moving back to AVA’s flex teacher.

The following Paras will be moving to new grade levels for next year:

  • Ms. Hegarty to Kindergarten
  • Ms. Gant to 1st grade
  • Ms. Quattrone to 3rd grade
  • Ms. Saldivar to 4th grade
  • Ms. Bennett to 4th grade
  • Ms. Meyer to 5th grade
  • Mr. Balzer to 5th grade
  • Ms. Cash to MS
  • Ms. Ellis to clerical Para

We have hired the following additions to our staff:

  • Ms. Midolo will be joining our kindergarten team.
  • Ms. Thomson will be joining second grade,
  • Ms. Alavarez is returning to AVA in third grade.
  • Ms. Kendall is joining the 5th grade.
  • Ms. Stohler will be AVA’s new elementary music teacher.
  • Mr. Griffin will be AVA’s new middle school music teacher.
  • Ms. Nolen will be AVA’s middle school drama teacher.
  • Ms. Lasher will be joining kindergarten as a Para.

I realize changes in staff can be stressful, but having these opportunities for our staff to explore new roles and responsibilities revitalizes our community. Everyone is excited about their new opportunities, and I know it will shine through in what we accomplish as a team next year.

Important Immunization Information

for incoming 6th Grade Students

Please see the letter from our nurse

IMPORTANT IMMUNIZATION INFORMATION

Colorado law requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed child cares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed. Below are the vaccines required for students attending Colorado licensed child cares and schools.

Vaccines required to enter school (K-12)

Hepatitis B.

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTap).*

Inactivated poliovirus (IPV).*

 Measles, mumps, rubella (MMR).*

Varicella (chicken pox).*

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap).**

*Students 4 through 6 years of age are required to have their final doses of DTaP, IPV, MMR and Varicella prior to kindergarten entry.

**Students are required to have Tdap prior to entry into 6th grade. One dose of Tdap is required for 6th through 12th grades.

If you choose not to have your student vaccinated according to the current recommended schedule because of personal or religious reasons, you must submit a Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption to AVA when school begins in August.

Nonmedical exemptions must be submitted annually, which means parents must submit the certificate every new school year. (The school year begins on July 1 and runs through June 30 of the following year.) There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption:

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR

File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption received upon the completion of the online education module.

Downloadable certificates and the online education module are available at
