Wow, what an amazing school year it has been so far! The success of AVA is due to a strong partnership between the parents and the staff.  I firmly believe that everything your child achieves is a direct correlation to the dedication and commitment of the AVA staff and parents. It is truly an honor to serve the parents and students of Aspen View Academy.  Please take the following poem to heart and its message and be reminded of how honored we all are to serve you!

I dreamed I stood in a studio

And watched two sculptors there,

The clay they used was a young child’s mind, and they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher; the tools she used

Were books, music and art.

One a parent with a guiding hand,

And a gentle, loving heart.

Day after day the teacher toiled

With a touch that was deft and sure,

While the parent labored by her side

And polished and smoothed it over

And when at last their work was done,

They were proud of what they had wrought,

For the things they had molded into the child,

Could neither be sold or bought.

And each agreed they would have failed

If they had worked alone,

For behind the parent stood the school,

And behind the teacher, the home.

Be Ready for Weather Delays/Closures

AVA will follow DCSD for school closures and delays. In the event of a closure or delay, the information will be immediately posted on DCSD’s weather delays and closures page as well as on the AVA website. DCSD will also notify local media outlets of any closures or delays. Broadcasts are usually made by 6 am and periodically thereafter until approximately 9 am.

In the event DCSD schools are closed, all other activities scheduled at AVA’s facilities will also be canceled.

If there is a 90-minute delay,

  • B.A.S.E will begin at 8am
  • Middle school will begin at 9:30
  • Elementary school will begin at 9:45

As always, on days where DCSD’s Snow Team is activated and a delay or closure is not implemented, we respect the decision of our parents to keep their child home, if necessary. Please call your child's school and this will be an excused absence.

Need some volunteer hours? Like to Paint? We are looking for one or two people to come and paint the front entrance and lobby area of the school. We will provide all supplies that are needed. Email office@aspenviewacademy.org for more information.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 5th or 6th grade--a student's final year of elementary school (November).

5th/6th Grade Universal Screen

As part of this process, ALL students in 5th Grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of November 7.  This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates.  These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.

Gifted Identification Referral Testing

  • If your child is in grades 3, 4, 6, 7, or 8 and you believe they need evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
  • NOTE:  Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
  • Please request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE
  • Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.
