Dear Parents –
Schools having Halloween parties has been a fun activity for students for years. I still have great memories of my Halloween parties when I was in elementary school. Please be assured that these parties are simply a fun way to let kids be kids and enjoy an afternoon to let loose a little bit in a controlled environment. For those who do not wish their child to participate in the Halloween party, we will have an alternate activity planned for them, or you are welcome to pick them up early from school.
Halloween parties for PK - 5 students (grades 6-8 will not have parties as they are having a dance instead) will take place on Friday, Oct. 29 from 1:30pm – 3:15pm. Students can start changing into costumes at 1:30pm. and the parade will begin at 2:00pm. Students will parade around outside before the parties begin. The students' parade will follow an established route. Parties will commence immediately following the parade. Students do not have to bring a costume if they do not want to. Once the parties are done, you are free to take your child home.
PLEASE NOTE: Your student does not have to dress in costume; that is your decision. No student will be forced to be in the Halloween parade. Please let the classroom teacher know if your student will not be participating in the parade or party.
Costume guidelines:
- No weapons, blood, gore, or make-up
- Costumes should be conservative in style
- Halloween masks (for the parade only) are permitted as long as they follow the guidelines
- Students will bring their costumes to school to change into before the parade
- Inappropriate props such as blood, plastic swords, guns, knives, and weapons of any kinds are not allowed
- Students should NOT wear their costumes to school. Time will be provided to change into costumes
- No Halloween masks are to be worn in the classrooms; they are permitted during the parade.

Gifted Identification Referral Testing
If your child is in grades 3 and 4 and you believe he/she needs evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification process.
NOTE: Requesting this assessment automatically initiated the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
Please request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE.
Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.

PreK News
Time is running out to add you future PreK student to the waiting list for 2022-23. In order to attend PreK your student must be 4 years old before October 1st of the school year they are attending. The waiting list for school year 2022-23 is filling up. Current AVA families do have priority for spots but they are also based on the date stamp. The final day to add your PreK student's name to the list for school year 2022-23 is Tuesday, November 30th. PreK is a full day program 8:15 am -3:30 pm. More info can be found on our website. All after school club registration will occur in My School Bucks and clubs will remain open until filled or October 29th, whichever comes first. Calling All Lego Items!
Please, help Ms. Baumann get ready for the Lego Masters club starting in a couple of weeks. She is looking for Legos, Lego baseplates and Lego minifigures. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be dropped off to the front office or sent with your student to drop off in Ms.Baumann's classroom. The Halloween Dance is Back!!
AVA Student Council and PTO are bringing back the AVA Middle School Halloween Dance!! Only AVA students are allowed to attend. Costumes must follow AVA guidelines such as no masks and no weapons; specific details will be sent out soon.
Tickets are $5.00 each Sales will be during MS lunch the week of Oct. 25 - 28.
Tickets will not be sold at the door so get yours early!!
The Dance is Friday, Oct. 29 from 6:00 - 8:30pm pm.

Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.
VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.
Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.
