Who has the best teachers in the Douglas County School District? The answer is easy; Aspen View Academy does. I truly believe that we have a highly dedicated group of teachers that go above and beyond everyday to make sure your kids are educated in a safe and caring environment where they feel comfortable and confident to take chances.  They have established high expectations for all students and provide all the tools necessary for the students to accomplish these expectations. Of course, our success is not complete without the tremendous efforts of our support personnel, which includes the office staff, custodial staff, lunchroom staff and our PARAs. I know that the AVA parent community appreciates our teachers and staff and demonstrates that in many different ways.  There is a formal opportunity to show your appreciation – the DCSD Apple Awards.

The Apple Awards were created in 2006 to provide the opportunity to recognize and celebrate excellent, innovative teachers, administrators, and support staff. Nominations for the Apple Awards are submitted online by staff, students, parents and members of the community.  You may nominate more than one person. Nominations must be made using the online form, no exceptions. The nomination window is open now through November 13th.

We hope you will click on this link to access the DCSD Apple Award Home Page. Then scroll down to find Aspen View Academy.  The nomination window closes on November 13th. Please nominate your favorite AVA teachers and staff for these prestigious awards.

Be Ready for Weather Delays/Closures

AVA will follow DCSD for school closures and delays. In the event of a closure or delay, the information will be immediately posted on DCSD’s weather delays and closures page as well as on the AVA website. DCSD will also notify local media outlets of any closures or delays. Broadcasts are usually made by 6 am and periodically thereafter until approximately 9 am.

In the event DCSD schools are closed, all other activities scheduled at AVA’s facilities will also be canceled.

If there is a 90-minute delay,

  • B.A.S.E will begin at 8am
  • Middle school will begin at 9:30
  • Elementary school will begin at 9:45

As always, on days where DCSD’s Snow Team is activated and a delay or closure is not implemented, we respect the decision of our parents to keep their child home, if necessary. Please call your child's school and this will be an excused absence.

Need some volunteer hours? Like to Paint? We are looking for one or two people to come and paint the front entrance and lobby area of the school. We will provide all supplies that are needed. Email office@aspenviewacademy.org for more information.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

DCSD is committed to implementing equitable practices to increase access to advanced/gifted learning opportunities. Based on state and national recommendations and requirements, we implement Universal Screening for students in 2nd grade (February) and 5th or 6th grade--a student's final year of elementary school (November).

5th/6th Grade Universal Screen

As part of this process, ALL students in 5th Grade not identified for gifted programming will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) the week of November 7.  This assessment indicates the level and pattern of cognitive development of a student in comparison to grade and age mates.  These general reasoning abilities, which start developing at birth and continue through early adulthood, are influenced by experiences gained both in and out of school.

If your child is already identified for gifted programming, they will not participate in this universal screen testing. Your Gifted Education Facilitator will contact you directly with information about this process.

Gifted Identification Referral Testing

  • If your child is in grades 3, 4, 6, 7, or 8 and you believe they need evaluation for Gifted Identification and Services, you may refer your child for testing by initiating the Gifted Identification Process.
  • NOTE:  Requesting this assessment automatically initiates the process to evaluate for Gifted Identification.
  • Please request CogAT testing for your child by completing the Referral for Gifted Identification linked HERE
  • Upon receipt of this form the Gifted Education Facilitator will connect with you to discuss next steps in the gifted identification process.
