Conversations About School

When you think of parent involvement at AVA, do you envision moms and dads volunteering in the classroom, helping in the lunchroom or with carpool? Certainly, those are valuable ways to be involved, but research shows that supporting your child's education at home is extremely important as well. Following are four conversations that will help you stay involved with your child's education:

"Let's see what you brought home today."

Look at completed work whenever possible to see what your child is learning and how well they are doing. You could comment on their social studies work or their math progress. Make positive comments about their work and show that you are proud of them.

"Show me what you have for homework."

It is your child's job to do their homework, but you play a role too. Make sure your child knows what they are supposed to do by having them explain the assignments to you. After they finish, glance over the work to see that it is complete.

"Describe a book you enjoyed today."

This gives you an idea of what your child prefers to read. Then, build a daily reading habit by asking what they would like to read tonight. Encourage their reading and listening skills by reading aloud with them and letting them read to you.

"Tell me what you learned that you would like to know more about."

Use your child's interest as a jumping-off point for activities to share. If your child likes geometry, you might do tangrams together. If they are fascinated by a lesson they learned in science, talk more about it with them and look for ways to explore their interests.

Business Directory

Last Day to Submit your Business is tomorrow!

The Aspen View Academy Community Business Directory will be a resource for all families and staff to use to find local businesses. Please submit one form per business. Forms must be submitted by September 13th, 2023 at 11:59pm. Please submit a new form if you were part of the directory last school year.

The Directory has been updated on our website. An email was sent last week to all registered families with the password to access the 24-25 school year directory.

Student ID's Each Student Gets One

Every student received an ID card when they had their picture taken last month. If they did not receive their ID this is because they may not have had their picture taken yet this year. Students will receive their first ID for free. If they haven't had their picture taken yet they will still get the opportunity to get their picture taken on RETAKE Day on October 9th.

If you need to request a replacement ID your student will need to bring $5 cash or check to the front office AND complete this form. Replacement orders will be sent every other week to Studio 5. They can take up to 10 business days to get a replacement once they receive the order.

Join the Aspen View Academy School Accountability Committee (SAC)!

Are you looking for a meaningful way to contribute to our school with a minimal time commitment? Consider joining our School Accountability Committee (SAC)! By serving on the SAC, you can earn double the volunteer hours for your time spent on SAC-related activities.

We’re seeking parent representatives who reflect the diverse and vibrant community of Aspen View Academy. Your voice matters, and we’d love to have you on board!

As a SAC member, you’ll:

  • Attend quarterly SAC meetings, which are scheduled for Wednesdays at 4:00 pm. Meetings may occur more frequently if needed.
  • Represent and advocate for our school community.

If you’re interested in joining the SAC or have any questions, please contact Jessica Shepler at  jessicashepler13@gmail.com. The first meeting is Wednesday, September 18th at 4:00 pm.

Why SAC Matters:

All schools in Colorado are required to have a School Accountability Committee. The SAC’s role is to engage parents and community members in the planning and evaluation of our school’s instructional programs and quality improvement efforts. Your participation helps us ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.

We look forward to hearing from you and working together to enhance our school community!

Welcome to September!

September not only marks the beginning of a new month but also marks the beginning of our social-emotional classroom lessons for grades K-5. Every month the counseling team will visit each classroom to teach a new coping skill & provide a lesson on a specific topic. The coping skill for this month is deep breathing & the topics being covered for September are:

  • Kinder- 2nd- Zones of Regulation
  • 3rd-5th- Bullying

On a different note, it may seem early but the holidays will be here before we know it. AVA works with the Town of Castle Rock to provide support for those in need. If your family needs assistance with food and/or gifts for the upcoming holidays, please email Jessica Rossi at jrossi@aspenviewacademy.org or Kim Ness at kness@aspenviewacademy.org. All information will be kept confidential.

Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!

The AVA Counseling Team

The September PTO Pipeline is now live. Check it out for volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, and all things PTO!

Volunteer Hours = Fun Family Event

Aspen View Academy strongly encourages all families to perform 30 approved hours (15 hours for single parents) of volunteer service. It's a fantastic way to support your students and get to know other parents, as well as the AVA staff.

All AVA families who have completed 10 service hours by November 30th or (5 hours for single parents) will be invited to a fun family event hosted by the PTO held in December. More information on this fun event will be coming in early November.

We will also be having a fun family night at the end of the school year for those families who have met their hours for the school year.

The Girl Scouts of Troop #66848 have been working hard to complete a Silver Award Project called, Kindness Canvases! AVA's own 8th graders, Lily Deibler, Alex Evans, and Evie Reynolds, in addition to AVA alumni, Sophie and Abigail Reynolds spent over 200 hours to create 16 canvases that line our walls, cafeteria, and hallways which spread kindness and promote inspirational and positive messages. We hope you enjoy them!
