A Message From The Principal

As Fall approaches, I am always reminded of the beauty of change and ultimately what comes of that change. First Winter and the challenges it brings – often frigid temperatures, treacherous driving conditions and just being cold. But ultimately, we get to look forward to Spring – blooming trees and flowers, getting back outside and going on hikes and walks and not being as cold. Change and challenging times often bring about something positive and something to look forward to.
I thought it would be a good reminder of the change and challenges your Board has managed and navigated over the years. Three of our Board Members have been with the school since the beginning and there were unbelievable challenges we faced in the two years it took to start the school. We have successfully navigated the challenges that came with replacing the two prior Administrators. We have managed through some very strong opinions about uniforms. And now we are navigating all the issues with COVID. In fact, there have been many more challenges we have faced and each time we keep coming out on top and what we face today will be no different.
How do I know this? It is probably the most important thing to remember about your Board. First and foremost, we are parents. With that in mind, we want the same thing everyone else wants for their children – the choice to put our kids in a school that focuses on developing the entire child in a differentiated learning environment. Here is something else important to know - as a Board we do not manage day to day operations. Since the founding of AVA, it has been the intention of the Board to set the mission and vision of the school and then to partner with the Administration in a way that helps them achieve the underlying objectives within both. It is also important to remember that your Board members are all full-time working professionals with a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds. In fact, this diverse background, going back to the Founding Board and the current Board, has had a lot do with the success our school. Our varied opinions and insight have no doubt help navigate all the challenges I mentioned earlier.
I will leave you with this. Remember the most important thing about us – we are parents. Beyond that, we are all just people (maybe a little crazy based on how much we volunteer 😊), but like you we are husbands and wives, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles who likely have many of the same hopes, dreams and fears that you do.

Early Pick Up Guidelines
If you need to pick up your student early because of an appointment right after school please note the guidelines have changed due to the construction and congestion in the parking lot this year.
Please plan to pick up your student by 3pm. The front office WILL NOT call a student out after 3pm. This is a change from previous years.

Middle School Engineering Needs Your Help!
Throughout the year, sixth and seventh grades will be designing different versions of water bottle rockets. Students will be adding fins, nose cones and possibly parachutes on to 2 liter bottles and then launching them outside to measure time in the air and how straight they fly from the launcher.
Per quarter, I will need approximately 34 clean, empty 2L bottles (Coke, and Dr Pepper brand bottles seem to work the best), which is a total of 136 bottles for the year. That's a LOT of bottles!
If your family is already drinking soda, would you please consider one weekend of drinking from a 2L and donating the clean, empty bottle to the Engineering class? There will be bins set out in the front entryway on Monday (9/6) and Tuesday (9/7) of next week so students can drop them off on their way in to school.
Thank you so much for supporting this new STEAM class at AVA.
- Mrs. Cooper"

Student ID's Each Student Gets One
Your elementary student should have gotten their picture taken during Meet and Greets and your Middle School Student on one of the first two days of school. They later would have received their Student ID in class. If they did not receive their ID this is because they may not have gotten their picture taken yet this year. Students will receive their first ID for free. If they received a temporary ID they will still get the opportunity to get their picture taken on RETAKE Day on October 13th.
This year if we have to request a replacement ID your student account will be assessed a $5 fee for a lost ID. To request a replacement ID please complete this form. Replacement orders will be sent once per week to Studio 5. They can take up to 10 business days to get a replacement once they receive the order.

Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.
VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.
Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.
These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
