A Message From the Principal
Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal

In the event of incoming severe/dangerous weather, we want to make you aware of Aspen View Academy's updated Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal plan. When there is dangerous weather in the area, we may need to initiate a “Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal”. (“Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal” means that for the safety of students, we will hold students inside their classrooms until the storm has passed).
ASPEN VIEW ACADEMY will initiate a lightning dismissal when lightning is within 5 miles of the school. We use Weather Bug as our official weather monitoring tool. AVA does have a Weather Bug station on our building.
In the past, parents have been able to enter the building and escort their children. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to allow parents into the building. In the event of dangerous weather, we will initiate a “Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal” and are asking that parents please wait in their vehicle or other safe location until the weather danger has passed and we are able to safely release students.

Communication: We will do our best to communicate and send out timely information. AVA will push out communication via an email blast and the AVA mobile app that we have initiated a Severe Weather/Lightning Dismissal.
Students who will be picked up in the carpool line:  Students will remain in their classrooms under the supervision of their teachers. Students will be able to read, draw, watch a video, listen to music, start homework, etc.
Walkers and Bikers: If your student typically walks or rides their home, they will be released to walk as soon as the danger has passed.
Parents picking up their child(ren) on Low Meadow Blvd.: Students who are being picked up on Low Meadow Blvd. will be released once the severe weather passes and it is safe to release students.
How Will I Know If It Is Time to Pick Up My Child? When the dangerous weather has passed, an email will be sent as well as a message on the AVA app indicating that carpool will start again, and students will be released following our normal procedures.
Weather in Colorado can often be unpredictable and, for some reason, loves to occur right at dismissal time. Usually, these storms pass quickly, however, they also can linger. AVA cannot release students until the severe weather has passed and conditions are safe.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as such a delay will test everyone’s patience. Please remember, this is done for your safety as well as the safety of our staff and students.

In Person Learner Absences
If an in-person student needs to miss school due to illness or other reasons, the student will be counted as absent. The student may join in eLearning to keep up with their class, but will still be considered absent for the day. Any extenuating circumstances requiring a variance must be approved by administration.

eLearner Absences
If an eLearner needs to log off early or arrive late due to appointments etc., please be sure to do the attendance app or call the attendance line at (303) 660-5943. Be sure to include in the comment box or voicemail that your student is an eLearner.

Middle School Sports
Middle School Sports

Due to the concern for the safety of our students, and following CHSAA guidelines, all middle school sports will be put on pause until January. We are currently in the process of reformatting seasons, so we can have an opportunity to still participate in all sports that AVA typically offers. If your student is interested in participating in a sport in the spring, please consider turning in their sports physical this fall, to avoid the rush.
