"Teachers who inspire realize there will always be rocks in the road ahead of us. They will be stumbling blocks or stepping-stones - it all depends on how we use them."
- Author Unknown

This week's lead article is a time for me to praise the amazing teachers and staff we have at Aspen View Academy. All of our teachers and staff inspire our students daily. They also realize that there are stumbling blocks that must be overcome. We all have the same end goals in mind - to make sure all of our students are loved, grow academically and emotionally, and move on to high school well prepared to be successful. All of this is done in a safe and caring environment. Our teachers and staff go way above the call of duty. They are not just people who work from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. and then are done. They sacrifice family and personal time to do plan lessons, and complete countless other activities that must occur outside the normal work window. Most importantly, our teachers and staff show students how to turn those rocks in the roads into stepping-stones. They are taught how to overcome disappointment and failure and how to turn those things into positive, life lessons.

All too often, our teachers and staff hear when people are upset. I am asking everyone in the AVA community to please take a minute and send a positive note to a teacher or staff member to show him/her your appreciation.

I would like to start with a positive note to all of our teachers and staff: To some people in the world you may be a teacher or someone who works in a school, but to your students you are a HERO!!!

Announcements

Tomorrow, Friday November 19th is Dress of Choice

Pay for Dress of Choice is on Wednesday December 1st
Participate for $1 or more! All proceeds will go to www.readtomeco.org. This organization encourages new mothers to share the joy and love of books with their newborn babies from the start! The funds will ensure that all low income families will receive children’s books to promote early literacy experiences that can make a lasting difference in achievement throughout their lives.

Lost and Found

Please be sure to check Lost and Found. With the temperture going from warm to cold, we have had a lot of coats left behind. All items will be donated before Thanksgiving Break.
We are seeing an increase in the number of tardy students in the morning.
For Middle School Students, If your child arrives in the building after 7:58am they will be marked tardy.

For Elementary Students, If your child arrives in the building after 8:12am they will be marked tardy.

Parents, Please remember if your student is arriving late to school from a doctor's appointment, they will need to show a note from the doctor for this to count as an excused tardy, otherwise it will be marked as an unexcused tardy.

It is important to have kids in class and ready to go. Classes begin at 8:00am for MS and 8:15am for Elementary and having students arrive to class tardy is a distraction that can easily be avoided.

A reminder from the handbook:
Students who accumulate five or more tardies in a month will lose dress of choice privileges.

Thank you for making Aspen View Academy the best school!

Volunteer Corner
Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.

VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.

Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.

To log volunteer hours, please visit the Volunteer Portal.

These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
