Carpool Reminders – Let’s set a good example!
With a month into the school, it is time for a refresher on driving etiquette and traffic laws.
Aspen View Academy has worked hand in hand with The Town of Castle Rock Street Division to help give direction on traffic control issues. Last year, 2019, The Town of Castle Rock Street Division painted lane markings and No Parking lane markings. The No Parking lane markings are white lines with diagonal striping. In addition to the lane markings The Town of Castle Rock Street Division also installed No Parking signs along Low Meadow in the areas where they painted the No Parking lane markings. The Town of Castle Rock Street Division also installed No U-Turn signs inside a school zone. The signs and lane markings that were installed were placed on Low Meadow Blvd due to street assessment guidelines and pedestrian foot traffic. If you disagree or have questions about the No Parking easement lane markings please contact the Town of Castle Rock Street Division so they can answer your questions or complaints, as Aspen View Academy does not have those street assessment guidelines.
As Low Meadow Blvd is a Town of Castle Rock roadway, we cannot enforce Colorado Revised Statute – Traffic section – 42-4-1204 (2) (a, b and c) which states:
"No person shall stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of police officer or an official traffic device, in any of the following places:
o Within 5 feet of a public or private driveway
o Within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
o Within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection"
*Standing is a temporary stop to receive or discharge passengers.
We are asking everyone to follow the traffic laws and carpool procedures set forth by the school. Ignoring important traffic control devices shows the students of AVA that laws do not have to be followed. This may result in students at AVA violating simple rules at school. We are all trying to grow and inspire the students of AVA to be good citizens and follow the rules. The students also see the road rage that is occurring on a daily basis. As adults we must set a good example for our children. The good news is that everyone will get through the carpool line, however, we must be patient. Please use turn signals when pulling into traffic on Low Meadow Blvd from the curb or when entering the driveway into the school for carpool. Using a turn signal will cut down the amount of road rage we are seeing.
