The road map to teaching a student is an ever-evolving journey. What we do works for a class or on a specific day, but not for another class or on a different day. As an educator we must be flexible enough to reach each one of our students and meet the needs of the other students that are in the classroom that may need something different. Since no two students are the same it is important to understand how each student learns and grows differently. Aspen View does a great job of meeting the students where they are at in different ways.
The teachers at Aspen View work to recognize each student’s specific needs. One way we meet the needs of these students is through flexible grouping. In reading and math students are working on the skills that they need to become successful inside the classroom and out. By differentiating a student’s learning path, we are able to build their confidence as they continue to strengthen their skill set at the same time. We monitor this progress and make changes when it is necessary. Sometimes student's needs change, based on the skills or concepts they are learning, but as a school we adjust to their needs to ensure they continue learning.
Understanding where students are, academically, is important, but giving them opportunities to learn in different ways is just as important. Some students learn best by watching a teacher completing a skill or task like a science project or a math problem and then trying on their own. Some students learn best by trying on their own and making mistakes along the way while getting some support. Some students learn best by just listening to the information and taking notes. The fact is that each student is unique and will learn using each of these methods at some point and the teachers are giving them the opportunity to try them all out so that they know what works best for them.
When teaching students, we use as many of these methods in the classroom to ensure we are reaching all students. Each of these methods or procedures that we use is a different road or path on the journey to success. At Aspen View we pride ourselves in helping all students achieve this success and are willing to do what is necessary to ensure all students reach the end of their journey.

Construction Update
We finally have some construction going on that is interesting to watch.
The digging for the piers has begun. There will be 22 in total and they anticipate completing about 5 per day. Some of the piers will go down 70 feet (as a reference point, the existing building is about 35 feet tall). The drilling started on Tuesday and is expected to be complete early next week (barring any unforeseen issues). The good news is they said the drilling portion of the job is the loudest part of the build and that will be done soon.
The next step after that is grade beams, grading for the structural slab and pouring the structural slab. If all goes as planned, this will be complete the week before the Thanksgiving break.
Once the slab is poured, they will start going vertical and the building will start to take shape.
Thanks for your patience and understanding as this project moves forward - the end product will be well worth it.

Welcome to another school year at Aspen View Academy. We have a lot of volunteer opportunities so keep a look out for Sign-up Genius', Newsletter announcements and emails from the PTO. Below is an excerpt from the AVA Handbook.
VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT – AVA believes that the success of each student will be a shared responsibility of students, teachers, parents, staff, and community leaders. Volunteers enhance the school and its culture and character through their involvement. Accordingly, a strong family involvement program will be implemented. AVA expects 30 volunteer hours per family per school year. Single-parent families are expected to volunteer 15 hours per school year. The volunteer school year shall coincide with AVA’s fiscal year, and hours shall accrue from July 1 through June 30. If your family has special circumstances that make it difficult for you to meet the expected volunteer hours, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Many volunteer opportunities exist within AVA’s PTO. The PTO is an organization comprised of parent volunteers for the purpose of providing community support, fundraising and planning various events within our school community.
Pre-registration is required prior to volunteering. Please visit the Raptor Volunteer site, as this only needs to be completed one time. Once completed we will need you to bring your ID in to scan and link to your profile.
These volunteer opportunities can also be found on the volunteer page of our website.
